Can chimps, apes, and other REAL primates (not Repubs or |
|
freepers :-) ) have mental illnesses like people do, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and clinical depression?

I know a dog with OC - he takes Prozac and it allows him to act like a regular pup, otherwise he would never move away from his food dish. Wouldn't allow it out of his site; would go nuts and refused to go outside until started meds.

However I've witnessed clinical depression in dogs before. My terrier/chow mix went into a serious depressive state after her big buddy, a Dane/PitBull mix passed away. She didn't want to come inside, and for the most part stayed in the crawlway under the house for almost two years. She was in serious mourning. She gradually came out, in part because we got another dog for her to socialize with.
