Mass Executions in Iraqi Prisons Resume. 27 Executed in One Day
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 10:51 AM by HamdenRice
This is just too sad for words. The new Iraqi "democracy" under US auspicies has resumed mass executions in Abu Ghraib. This UPI story says that 26 men and one woman were hanged on September 8:

27 die in mass Iraqi execution

BAGHDAD, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Twenty-six men and one woman were hanged in Iraq's first mass execution since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

All the condemned had been convicted of terror and criminal charges, officials said. The executions were carried out at the Abu Ghraib prison where several gallows are erected, The Telegraph, a British newspaper, reported.

Two of those hanged were said to be convicted of terrorism charges, the Telegraph said, the others of murder and kidnapping.

Mass executions were stopped after coalition troops ousted Saddam three years ago. This new round came days after control of Abu Ghraib was handed back to Iraqi authorities.

12. Thanks for the link
The longer article basically adds that capital punishment is very popular in Iraq, and suggests that the government is trying to bring a Sadam-like toughness to the insurgency issue.

The good folks down in Huntsville must be experiencing an enormous case of execution envy right now. :evilfrown:

This is just another in a series of war crimes.

9. This doesn't make any sense!
When we operated the place, we couldn't identify a single terrorist! Didn't we release most of the prisoners we had? And now the ones the Iraqis arrest are all so dangerous they must hang them? Is Abu Ghraib now a secret CIA prison where we let the Iraqis do our dirty work?

From Bush's 9/11/06 terror speech: "The world is safer because Saddam Hussein is no longer in power."

Coalition and Iraq forces have lost all control of the nearly one third of Iraq highlighted in bright green (click on the map below) and, now, we learn that mass prisoner executions have resumed under the new Iraqi regime.

I believe the next election may be our last chance to save the United States from a level of fascism that would have made Mussolini choke.

Hey, look at the upside. We'll only be in THIRD place in executions now.

Have I mentioned lately how much I loathe these nazi jackals? The GOP should be totally destroyed and its bones ground to dust for the crime of letting these thugs take over.
