Winning Strategy for Dems -- Forget Emotion, Tell Truth, Hold Accountable
There is a post at www.talkingpointsmemo.com today that clearly lays out a winning approach to the upcoming elections in Nov and in 2008.

"TPM Reader PB reads Josh's mind ...
If the Democrats want to achieve a substantial victory in November there are two words they need to excise from their vocabulary, "ashamed" and "politicized." Those words need to be replaced with "failure" and "accountability." Every time a Democrat gets the understandable urge to cry foul and say the President should be "ashamed" for having "politicized" national security, they need to exercise some self-censorship, and go on the offensive and attack the President for his many failures and promise the American people to hold him accountable.

...If the Democrats are serious about re-taking power they need to stop complaining about what is acceptable in political discourse and start running ads with footage of people standing on rooftops in New Orleans, chaos in Iraq, and bin Laden still on the loose and remind the American people all of these things are Bush's fault. Republicans will go wild complaining that it is not fair and it politicizes tragedies. Let them."

Go to the site to read the rest. It is right on the money.

1. Absolutely correct. The truth is the most potent weapon the Dem's
have today. This would be the defining separation between us and the rethuglicans. Kerry's biggest fault was not calling them out on their lies, and trying to play their game. Lay out the facts, admit mistakes, and don't let the bastards get away with anything. If a free election still exists in this country, the rethugs shouldn't come away with a single seat left.

2. We need to show the real world consequences of Repubs in power...
....especially Katrina victims, troops and civilians killed and injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, pictures of Bin Laden still on the loose, remind them of secret prisons, secret wiretapping of American citizens, $130 billion dollars handed out by the Office of Homeland Security but virtually none going to first responders, etc.

There are tons of real life consequences that need to be emphasized, factual, and let the voters respond emotionally --we need to be about taking care of business. Point out the failures, and promise to hold those responsible accountable.
