Correcting The Path to America circa 9/11/2001 |

1. Columbus discovered America in 1492. Fiction - the natives discovered it thousands of years before. 2. The Spanish made the first claim to America. Fiction - this land was claimed by the natives thousands of years before. 3. The English first colonized North America. Fiction – the natives were here first. 4. The Revolutionary War gave Americans their inalienable rights. Fiction – Native Americans, women and blacks were not given their inalienable rights by the Founding Fathers. 5. The Civil War freed the slaves. Fiction – the slaves were left homeless and without civil rights. 6. The United States won World War 2. Fiction – the World lost the war to the lesser of two evils. 7. The United States won the Cold War. Fiction –. The World now has more countries with nuclear weapons than ever before. 8. The United States is the only country to use nuclear weapons. True.

Their ilk effectively has at least a couple of definitions of Freedom/Free/Freed, depending on who has it, is giving it or is getting it.
The most egregious example would be to say we've "freed the Iraqis"--especially when referring inadvertently or otherwise to the tens of thousands we've helped out by causing them to die. We certainly "freed" them.
No doubt if the filmakers had their druthers, the "freeing" of the slaves would've been this last definition of freedom, just as it would be their preferred means of freeing the rest of IRAQ, Iran, and the rest of the Muslim and Arab worlds (oh, and that troublesome, freedom deprived North Korea).
Onward Christian Soldiers, spreading "freedom" wherever they go.
