Please Call Your Congress Person

Appalachian Voices, Coal River Mountain Watch, Pennies of Promise, OHVEC, Save Our Cumberland Mountains, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, and an army of Appalachian people are in DC right now lobbying for ”The Clean Water Protection Act“ to help end mountaintop removal. Its absolutely the most phenomenal thing I’ve ever been a part of.

Please chip in by calling representative and ask them to Co-sponsor HR 2719, the “Clean Water Protection Act” and help end mountaintop removal coal-mining forever!

If you know the name of your rep, call the switchboard at 202-224-3121.
To find out the name of your rep, go here: http://www.house.gov/

57. Thanks so much for the link of my work
some day when I get funding and can hit this hard I'm going to make a tell all that will ROAST these Coal companies, in the mean time this will have to do, so glad that so many others are pushing on this, give this thread a BIG Kick..

There are so many people dying in those mountains that I see it looking in my mind's eye to be as bad as Iraq, and it's our OWN COUNTRYMEN and WOmen, children, being KILLED for MONEY, pure and simple.

They are an OCCUPIED nation, by Heartless, Souless Corporations, aided with gusto by BUSH and CO.

35. Went to see Kilowatt Ours( here's a link to calender of nat'l showings)
Very moving.. also gives tips on how we can cut down on coal dependency.

One scene had a man from the Southeast US looking at destroyed-for-coal land and said that he had been asked if he had any pics of the mountain that was no longer there. His response was that when the mountain was still standing no one thought it would ever be GONE so, no, there were no pics of it b/c no one felt a need to take pictures of it...they thought it would always be there.
They had DVD's available last night given in return for any donations that people wanted to give to keep the documentary's roadshow funded...we were told to show it to as many people as we could so more people would get educated on using less coal dependent electricity.

http://www.kilowattours.org/energy-conservation-film.php

The most significant cause of each of these problems is our dependence on coal-generated electricity in America. In other words, the solution begins at our light switches and power strips.

Today, more than 50% of our nation's electricity is generated from coal. In the southeast U.S., where household electricity use is highest, this amounts to more than 12,000 pounds of coal burned per home per year.

Buildings in America consume nearly 2/3 of all the energy we use. The typical American home emits twice the annual global warming emissions compared the typical car.

Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 06:09 PM by symbolman
We MUST stop this, Mr Gibson, a "Keeper of the Mountains" and the man in my film, told me that people there had a better chance of surviving VIETNAM all of that war, than they did the mining techniques of the corporations there, that's saying something..

Also the LARGEST man made explosion created outside of Hiroshima since the war was used in those mountains, I saw what was left, nothing but a putting green with seeded with non indigenous grasses and trees that create quick cover.

Besides the people, the animals have no where to go, and are being poisoned as well.

This a major catastrophe on a scale people can't even imagine.

Hope my little film was/is helpful, and that I can expand it at some point and make a feature. Killowatt hours is a fantasti work, and the best part of it is that it empowers people to do SOMETHING, simple changing all the lights out in your house for lower wattage, new generation bulbs can save millions in the end, and that will include LIVES.

Thanks to The Jewel of a Lady here for promoting these facts for all of us!
