Poll question: Is "We do not torture..." the new "I'm not a crook."
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 02:43 PM by originalpckelly
It is actually quite interesting how these two moments are similar. Both put Presidents of the United States so on the defensive that they uttered something was/is obviously false. People aren't dumb enough to think that Abu Graib was an isolated incident when a secret memo was discovered defining torture as something that causes pain like "serious physical injury such as death or organ failure."

Why did the Vice President lobby Congress to allow the CIA to be exempt from the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005, if the CIA was not involved in torture?

Why would the Congress have to consider legislation which gives immunity to our soldiers, in cases involving war crimes? What are they being ordered to do that would cause someone to think the actions are war crimes?

In light of all this, do you think "We do not torture..." is the new "I'm not a crook."?

1. Yes it is. Because it is such a blatant, bloody lie....
..and as Matt Lauer asked when he interviewed the chimp the other day, "...if it is legal why did you need the secret prison camps? Why not interrogate them at Gitmo?...."

Of course the stammering ape had no coherent answer.....
