Apple's New ITunes Online Movie Store will only carry Disney movies......
Apple unveils online movie store
By MAY WONG, AP Technology Writer

Posted Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 3:21 pm
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Apple Computer launched its long-awaited online movie service Tuesday with minimal participation from Hollywood and showed off a device that will make it easier for consumers to watch the videos on television.

The iTunes Music Store will only carry movies from The Walt Disney Co. studios, where Apple CEO Steve Jobs is a board member. By contrast, Amazon’s movie service launched last week with distribution deals with seven studios — but not Disney.

At a media event Tuesday, Jobs also showed off a compact gadget, dubbed iTV, that will allow consumers to watch movies purchased online — as well as other digital content stored on a computer — on a connected television set. It will sell for $299 and be available early next year.

He said more than 75 films will be available from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax. New releases will be priced at $12.99, when pre-ordered and during the first week of sale, or $14.99 afterward. Library titles will be sold for $9.99 each.

Jobs also announced a new iPod nano with a 24-hour battery life and new games for the portable media player. The new iPods will come in five colors, and will sell for between $149 and $249.

2. Tune in next week for another episode of "Great moments in bad timing"
I'm guessing a lot of his target market is NOT gonna
be buying very many movies from him anytime soon.

I sure as hell won't be.

3. Bad timing in spades! I think I'll just have to call Apple and
explain to their braindead marketing dept that they better start job hunting NOW.

Oops!

lol

20. Agreed. Worst timing ever for this announcement. Plus, iPod users
are pretty much in an age group that won't be interested in a lot of Disney movies anyway. I'm sure this was an inter-board of directors agreement to get them both publicity but it couldn't have come at a better/worse time.

4. When i-Pods get below the $100 level, I'll consider buying one
Until then, I'll stick with my portable CD player.

5. Portable CD player, what are you talking about grandpa???

:pals:

You can get many mp3 players for well under $100. Because of the hype ipods are way over priced for what they do. There are hundreds of other players on the market just as good if not better than what apple has to offer for a lot less money. You can start your search here with MP3 players as low as $30:

This is a great player:

17. I wouldn't recommend the shuffle
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 07:03 PM by Pawel K
maybe its personal preference but I like to select on demand what songs I want to listen to at a perticular time. The shuffle doesn't let you do that, it simply plays through all the songs in your "memory" without even displaying the song information. I think you can do a lot better than that for that money. The Rio has some good players in that price range comparable to the nano.

I will admit though, the new shuffle is awesome for its size.

6. Ha ha! I just called Apple public relations in my capacity as a columnist
for the Street Sheet and I asked for a comment on the upcoming BOYCOTT on Disney films.

There was much gulping and gasping but no comment.

SEND THE MESSAGE! :toast:

12. To think another DUer took issue with my decision
not to buy a Mac or Ipod or use iTunes. Pfft. I didn't even know the deal was exclusively Disney movies. I feel vindicated.
