So Tweety just said he voted in the MD Democratic primary & for MFUME
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 04:47 PM by UTUSN
The guest, Democratic candidate for (U.S. Representative?) was VERY impressive. I'll have to look up her name. She was totally self-possessed, easily caught all the curveballs Tweety tossed about: "Other Dems voted for the Iraq resolution, why is he different? What is the Dem position on Iraq, I don't know of one. Are you saying he's in the tank, has been bought? Rep. FORD in TN voted for the Iraq resolution." She said she's in MD, not TN, that her opponent consistently votes against the interests of her district.

But wow, Tweety voted for a DEM!!!1 Does MD allow crossover voting? He also said that the absentee voting there was screwed up AGAIN and that "something is happening (wrong)" with the election screw-ups.

.... Other high-profile races included the Democratic contest for attorney general between Stuart Simms, a former Baltimore prosecutor and state official, and Montgomery County State's Attorney Douglas Gansler, and the race for the U.S. Senate, with U.S. Rep. Ben Cardin and former congressman Kweisi Mfume considered the leading candidates in a crowded Democratic field. ....

Election day glitches created problems in Montgomery County, where officials said the key cards to activate electronic voting machines weren't delivered in time for the 7 a.m. opening. Voters had to use provisional ballots while the county scrambled to deliver the cards.

To accommodate voters who may have been turned away, the county board of elections filed a petition in Circuit Court to extend voting hours to 9 p.m., adding an additional hour. ....

2. Not too surprising. Tweety is a Dem, after all...
he was a speechwriter for Jimmy Carter for four years, an aide to Tip O'Neill for six years, and worked with Democrats in the Senate after that. Also ran for a House seat as a Dem.

And then he voted for Bush in 2000.

So, I think this is a case of him coming home to his roots more than anything else.

5. Did he ever vote for Clinton? I've never heard. I know he voted for
Bush in 2000 and Kerry in 2004.

He really seemed to hate Clinton and Gore got that backlash from him.

6. I think Tweets just discovered that the "Mission Accomplished"
Photo op of '*Stubby with a chubby' wasn't real, but merely the result of a couple of rolled up sweat socks. I'm sure it bwoke his widdle heart.

3. it's a mess once again
both machines at the registration desk went down, when I went to get my plastic card, the machine
said I already voted which I had not, so they are going to let me vote and then send my vote
back with a sheet to indicate that I only voted once.

15. Probably not.
Most database programs are disk oriented. As soon as you complete the record, it is saved to disk.

17. well, I heard that in 2004, they pulled the plugs on some machines
in Kerry leaning areas and the counters went back to zero, but that may only be a rumor.

23. I'm not vouching for the integrity of these machines.

Let's say if you were designing a voting system based on any available database app, or designing one from scratch, good engineering practice would dictate that each record would be immediately preserved in some non-volatile format. That's common sense -- if you have no ulterior motive. Bank transactions, sales transactions, I mean anything, is done that way.

That is not the case if somebody is out to screw us.:) Since these voting systems are proprietary and secret, then all sorts of shenanigans, beyond the storage problem, are possible. I'm just saying that a power outage shouldn't cause a data loss beyond the current record.

4. Anyone can claim anything
if there are no paper trails.

Tweety can call himself a democrat if he wants but his interviews don't make me think he is in my camp. I'm not saying he didn't vote the way he claimed. I just don't think his heart is in our party. I think his heart is in his wallet and pretty much nowhere else.

7. Tweety will vote Pug so for one reason or the other he must think
Mfume the easiest to beat. I have no way of knowing if this (Mfume's chance to win)is true. I am in Kentucky, but do not trust Tweety. He is the essense of a Shakespearean equivocator on his way to Dante's "hell."

I regret it, but I really think that we need to get these machines straigtened out, a lot of
people are starting to realize this. I want the person with the most votes to win and
no hokey, pokey.

9. Doesn't sound like Maryland allows cross over voting?
Voting in Primary Elections

What is a Party Primary?

The major parties are required by law to choose their candidates for the General Election in Party Primary Elections.

Only registered voters who have affiliated with a major political party may vote in the Primary Election of their party.
How can I vote in a Party Primary?

To vote in a Party Primary, you must affiliate with that party either when you register to vote or at a later date.

16. Everyone needs to calm down. You can't vote in the dem primary
unless you're a registered dem so that means he's crossed over. Isn't that what we want? Jesus H Christ. You people are hard to please sometimes...

I know he's a fair weathered friend but I don't care...I just count the votes.

19. Who's hysterical? Monitoring Tweety is my normal mode.
But what *I* mean by "crossover" is enemy partisans who vote in the opposite primary to pick what will be their weakest opponent and then they vote for their home-party in the general election. Uh, no, it's not what I want. Not Repukes in CT voting for Joementum. (NOTE: All kibitzers please be aware that I know I'm talking about different states here. Thanks!!!!1)

Mfume is the weaker Democratic candidate out of the two who have a chance of winning the primary tonight.
