5. Are you familiar with the "Society of Fred Mertz, Boddhisattva"? |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 10:42 PM by htuttle
To quote: SFMB -- the Society of Fred Mertz, Boddhisattva -- was founded by the Finnish-American poet, Antero Alli, and holds that all wisdom is contained in the seemingly inane remarks of Fred Mertz, a minor character of the "I Love Lucy" TV show. By watching "Lucy" reruns continually and meditating on the apparently banal things Fred says -- e.g., "I don't know what's going on around here" or "I don't understand women at all" -- this sect claims you will find the same Enlightenment as in contemplating Zen Buddhist koans such as "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" And just as in Zen, where students are often required to meditate on monosyllables such as "Mu" (no), the SFMB sect would have you meditate on such Mertziana as "Huh?" or "Awww!" until you sense what Joyce would call the epiphany in even the most trivial.

Is true enlightenment achieved when one's pants are pulled up to the armpits?

3. Anything like the resurected Alka-Selter commercial? |
|
"I can't believe I hate the whole thing."
I'm kind of hoping that now they are actually having to deal with it, the AARP leadership that went along with this fiasco, gets purged.

9. I First Thought It Was A Silly Geico Commercial |
|
Sorry...fake commercials never impress me...just a reason for an advertising agency and some hot-shot creative to waste a lot of money on toys and special effects to wow the client more than sell the product. But this one has a touch of a twist.
While I think this commercial, and others like it are tacky...my 75 year old mother-in-law thinks it's "cute". She didn't really pay attention to what it said or that it sold her on their product. Right now most seniors I know are disgusted with the Medicare mess and would rather kick Fred in the nards than buy into another Medicare "plan".

11. I felt like they were molesting dead people |
|
They made Fred and Ethel the spokespeople or this PoS drug plan and it's not like they can ask them if that's ok. It's almost like 1984 where they rewrote history as a matter of policy.
