BOLTON SKIPS OUT ON DARFUR MEETING FOR 'UN-TRASHING FETE' AT RIGHT-WING |

THINK TANK!"
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS -- BOLTON SKIPS OUT ON DARFUR MEETING FOR 'UN-TRASHING FETE' AT RIGHT-WING THINK TANK:
On Monday, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan met with the U.N. Security Council to warn of the intense new wave of genocidal violence that may unfold in two weeks when African Union (AU) peacekeeping forces are scheduled to pull out of Darfur. "In an attempt to raise individual council members to action, Annan delivered a stirring speech," The American Prospect's Marc Leon Goldberg writes. "Using unusually blunt language, Annan called on 'additional voices' (read: key member states like China, Russia, and the United States) to do their utmost to press Sudan to consent to a UN peacekeeping operation for Darfur."
Unfortunately, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton wasn't around to respond to Annan's remarks. Goldberg reports that Bolton "skipped out of the briefing immediately following Annan’s speech" and left only a mid-level "minister counselor" to represent the United States for the duration of the Security Council meeting, despite the fact that permanent representatives from other countries (including from our closest ally, the UK) stayed. "So why was Bolton in such a hurry? He had an important UN-trashing fete to attend to across town at the Hudson Institute," where conservative pollster Frank Luntz unveiled a new survey showing that politicians "could profit from making the United Nations a 'wedge issue' in upcoming elections. And to make sure that the UN press corps got this message, the United States mission invited Luntz to the UN building and organized a press briefing for him there."

my head. PNAC and the barons don't want mere countries in the way of anything they have set out to do.
All non-PNAC/barons are scum. We are the scum in his rolayist eyes.
King Dick, Minister Bolton John. His performance bonuses must be worth a fortune.

8. how many kids are taught about the United Nations in high school? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 06:00 PM by nashville_brook
how many college students? i didn't learn about the UN until i was in mid-level polysci "peace studies/global relations" seminars. people think the United Nations are some sort of mysterious monster and that's what the Boltons and the Luntzes are selling with their f'in UN-bashing. it's so very "corporate," when you think about it -- the are destroying the organization from within. the price is being paid with genocide.
they are such evil-doers that they can't even see how it's undermining global security along the way -- they'll get their "golden parachute."
americans *cheer* for the dismantlement of the UN -- the don't even know what it is. everything that is "wrong in the world" gets blamed on the UN because people are IGNORANT of collective security and the league of nations and the security council and everything that goes with it. it's dangerous and criminal the way conservatives have bent our hope for global security to their grubby short-term political goals.
FUCK.

12. Yes...but only the Progressive Dems like Conyers, Waxman, Kucinich, Durbin |
|
and a few others who will CALL THEM OUT. We lost McKinney because of the Righward slant of Dems...so we only have the Black Caucus and those who support them in the House to hang onto for HEARINGS AND REFORM.
Think more about the Dems who want "appeasement...to move on and keep the Government WHOLE." Those are the ones who will NEVER investigate...or if they DO...it will be WHITEWASH/COMPROMISE. Just like Nixon was allowed to RESIGN...the STABILITY AND POWER OF GOVERNMENT is the MOST IMPORTANT consideration. I can't say they are wrong for thinking that...but given the Horrendous body of CRIMES of the BUSHFASISTS one does think that a CLEANING OUT is in order, here. As John Dean of Watergate Fame said: "It's Worse than Watergate."
