She must be working on her "Little Warrior Debs" merit badges. Next up: her "Why God Made Adam And Eve, And Not Steve" science fair diorama.

Pro-life advocate Claire Miller, 9, holds a plastic model of a fetus while describing a child's development during a 'March For Life/Life Chain' rally to protest against abortion on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in Los Angeles, California January 22, 2006.

2. Why would you ridicule a child...
...for reciting the talking points its parents have brainwashed into it?

For that matter, I don't really care for people on the left using their kids as props for protests either. Let them grow up to an age when they're entitled to an opinion before having them spout it on people.

Sorry, but this is a lovely girl who's been conditioned to say stupid things. Why not leave her be?

Fortunately they are the right(meaning correct) ways in which to think and act. However, we have not discussed pro or anti-choice issues. I didn't even tell them about the birds and bees until they were 10. Some things you don't discuss with children because they are too young to reason or understand. Talking about "murdering" babies to a 9 year old girl and to teach her that there are "libruls" out there that do this is just irrational and extremely bad parenting.

on edit:

The girl should be playing with baby dolls not baby fetuses.

I sincerely doubt she reads Democratic Underground. And if she does, sorry, lovely girl.

On the other hand, since she now has national exposure via the news media thanks to her participating in an anti-Roe v Wade demonstration, you think she just should be praised?

I hope this child, though, and her protesting peers never are faced with an ethical dilemma once they are actually able to reproduce, not just pontificate on the subject. Maybe by that time Bush will have his wished-for "birthing center" ("Magdeleine Laundry") homes up and running anyhow.

14. Our snarking here will have no effect on that...
...of course to be fair, it will likely not hurt the girl's feelings, either.

At any rate, it just seems a bit petty to make fun of little kids. I'm sure there are plenty of pro-choice women posting here who were raised in anti-choice households. Give people some credit for sometimes learning to think for themselves as they grow up.

16. Gotta get to 'em while they're young
If you wait too long, you run the risk that they might develop the Satanic desire to think for themselves.

I can't help but marvel at people who refuse to teach their children about sex until they get married, but are more than eager to provide them with graphic anatomical information about abortion and gestating fetuses in order to turn them into loyal soldiers for their political cause.

36. Images of aborted fetuses!
I know kids grow up more quickly these days, but I did not know what abortion was when I was nine. My mother had a baby when I was ten, and I learned about babies and reproduction then. I asked, and she answered.

My kids are in their twenties. I know we did not talk about abortion when they were nine. I am glad none of them asked me about abortion at that age. I would have had a hard time with that question. I handled the other sex questions well enough. My mother set a good example.

I will never understand what is wrong with these people. I don't wish the child any ill. But the parents? Kids have nightmares. This kid most likely will get them, given what her parents have exposed her to. If she does have nightmares, I hope her parents enjoy their sleepless nights.

43. This is like the "five year old preacher"
I don't remember this kid's name, but I became aware of him when he was about five years old. This child apparently learned to read when he was three and started emulating the TV preachers he saw...his mom and dad saw him doing it, bought him some very nice suits and took him on tour to all these churches where you could hear the Word Of The Lord coming out of a five-year-old mouth.

Ministers who still have their baby teeth are fun to watch, if you're into that kind of thing, but where's the connect between the Word Of The Lord and the real lives of the congregation? Can he understand why God turned Lot's wife into a pillar of salt?

On to Claire Miller. She can't possibly understand that there are cases where abortion is the best thing for the fetus--fetuses missing major organs, for instance--or the only way to save the life of the mother. Her mom and dad told her abortion was a terrible thing and she had to work to stop it, so she got a True Facts About Abortion By Jack Chick tract and learned it by heart. And now she's the star of anti-Roe rallies. Dressed in her Young Pioneers neckerchief and prim white blouse, all the fundies adore her. Ten years from now, she'll be a sidewalk counselor telling women carrying ectopic pregnancies THAT THEY WANTED TO CARRY TO TERM they're murdering their children. (That is, assuming Alito doesn't overturn Roe and Bush doesn't sign the EO demanding states implement abortion bans that I muttered about a couple of weeks ago.)

Don't ignore little Claire. She's the future of the so-called "pro-life" movement, and the future's lookin' grim.

50. We used to call those dolls "king cake babies"
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 08:58 PM by KamaAina
In New Orleans, where I was defending clinics about 15 years ago, it is a tradition during Carnival season (which began Jan. 6) to eat "king cakes", basically a cake sprinkled with the purple, green and gold colors of Mardi Gras, with a small plastic doll (much smaller than that one) baked inside. Whoever gets the slice with the king cake baby has to buy the next cake.

So when the anti's would start waving those dolls around, we'd start cracking jokes about king cake babies: "You're buying the next one, Reverend!" At least those anti's never stooped so low as to expolit a child this way. :puke:

edit: speling
