Got your 2007 Bush calendar yet? |
|
The one I got at Borders today is the 2007 George Bush "The Out of Office Countdown" calendar. There are others devoted to the (accidental) wit and wisdom (?) of our 43rd pResident.
Actually, we need some enterprising techie to create a Countdown Clock with the days, hours and seconds before a new president is sworn in in Jan 2009.

I remember being a teen years ago in the late seventies and finding a rock magazine belonging to one of my sisters that dated back to 1973. In the back of this magazine was a tiny ad for a "Nixon Countdown Calendar." It was a big picture of him divided into a grid, with the days marked on the grid from January 20, 1973 to January 20, 1977. As you crossed out each day, you placed another X on another square in the grid until finally, on Inauguration Day 1977, Nixon would be crossed out completely.
When I saw this ad, I couldn't help but imagine the unrestrained glee the purchasers of the calendar must have had as they realized, in 1974, that they were going to be able to X out all the rest of the boxes in one big day.
Why do I tell this story? Because history does have a way of repeating itself.
You never can tell.
