I'm flat out ashamed of America's apathy toward tyranny.
Not of us here, we care, but the vast majority of Americans have dropped the ball, tuned out, surrendered, cashed in the chips, and allowed tyranny to take over without a fight.

How could I not be ashamed of this nation? We are literally on the verge of total societal and financial collapse, at the moment of our greatest crisis, and most folks could give a damn.

Hitler's great nephew is our president and nobody gives a damn. No one can afford health care and no one gives a damn. Thousands upon thousands are being slaughtered and no one gives a damn.

I'm disgusted, I'm ashamed, I'm revolted at this nation's lack of action in the face of the worst disaster ever, the takeover of our government by monsters. I'm disappointed, and angry about it, If we can care, why can't the other 90% of the populace?

I've said over and over till I'm sick of hearing it, why are we allowing this? Why is no one stopping this? Why doesn't anyone care about this? When will someone, anyone, stop these assholes?

Shame, shame, shame on America, for sitting on it's ass while all this went down right in front of our eyes, shame on us for failing to do our constitutional duty.

1. Guess it is just easy to have others do it for you.
When people do not like a law it is fun to ask if they voted. So many do not and wonder why they get so much they do not like.

4. It is more fun to tell them to STFU!
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 08:05 AM by acmejack
If they haven't voted tell them they have no right to bitch. By not voting they are saying it's all OK with them...

Edit: It's not really fun, it is sad. The silly shits let this happen to all of us by not voting1 They are the ones we literally have to carry to polls this time. We must get these people to vote or we will never change a damned thing in this Country!

16. I do wonder why they do not vote but one thing it makes my vote
better. Maine votes pretty good but we only have 60 per cent running this state. Crazy. I think MI beats us out. It is one crazy way to run a country. I still have one child that will not vote. He said they are all crooks which I have heard since I first voted. My husband would not vote when he was in the service but I did all the work and still voted. When I got him on the list he then would vote if I kept after him. It was hell to vote if you were in the service or a service family in days gone by.

2. I agree.
Our country can't take care of its citizens. Our diplomacy with other countries is non existent.
Political corruption has a choke hold on us. We are in a very sad state of affairs.

5. And American Idol,
Fear Factor, Viva la Bam, NASCAR and the latest adventures of Paris Hilton. But maybe all of the above fall under your category of pornography.

6. Don't confuse weakness with apathy
"The Greatest Generation" was the one that gave us the aversion to politics, and "The Love Generation" gave us the too-hip-to-vote movement. It will take some time to re-engage people and incite them to rebel against oppressive *irony-based politics.

Right now, we're a big movement, but we're weak.

Well, that's changing.

--p!
*Irony-based politics, the oppressive variety: E.g., "Capitalism is Freedom", "Don't Vote -- It Only Encourages Them", "None Of The Above", and the ever popular "Not a Nickel's Worth of Difference".

8. So what have you done about this situation?
Lots of posts here in a short time.......but any action?

There was another president years ago, a wanna-be tyrant, instigated a bloody civil war, had dreams of empire: Abe-something.

He was stopped. Think about it...........

9. Most don't know what's going on
It's not like our media is screaming that something bad is happening here. Some STILL believe that Saddam was behind 9/11. So, please, don't rag on honest people who don't have either access to the net, or alternative sources for news.

We, here at DU, tend to forget that others don't have the information that we have. We are the rich, in this case. Don't look down on the poor, educate them. And, yes, a lot of them are happy with the way their lives are going, or are too busy surviving to care what is happening in DC, but it has never been easy to get people to change their way of thinking. Be gentle, but firm. Although, with the way things are going, it may be shoved in their faces soon.

11. Most people just aren't connecting the dots.
While we're all on DU everyday, learning about outrage after outrage, insult after insult, crime after crime committed by the thugs in charge, most people in this country are too busy living their lives and earning an income to put it all together. So damn much shit has happened since 2000 that it is time consuming to connect the dots, to see the impact of everything. The corporate media whores aren't reporting much of anything with the exception of a short window of truth about Katrina, otherwise, for the most part we have to spend hours a day to find out the truth! Most people just don't have that kind of time.

I've said it before and here it is again: Until it all hits people square in the gut and very personally, they just aren't gonna pay attention. The Great Depression 2, World War 3, The Draft, 9/11 Part 2 are about the only things that are gonna get the masses in an uproar. And forget about expecting Congress to do a damn thing other than protecting their own asses!

Pathetic and disgusting-ain't it?!

17. Why?
The majority of those who support this madness supported slavery and lynching and justified it with the bible as well.
