Poll question: If Bush attacks Iran, what will elected Democrats do?
Bush is clearly ramping up for an attack on Iran either with Israel delivering the first blow or some pre-text for us doing it.

What I wonder is what Democrats will do since even many Iraq War critics have said that war has distracted us from the growing threat from Iran.

2. I think they'd split.
A disturbing number of them still seem to be trying to "moderate" their message so as not to seem too "liberal". By the time we'd actually attack Iran Bush would have the populace so scared that some Dems would be falling over themselves to support the war.

4. I have heard at least three Dem's calling for some sort of action against
Iran. Right now it is sanctions but didn't one talk about a pre-emptive strike this weekend?

Personally, I agree with the assertion that Iran has figured out their oil supply is dwindling and they have no other energy source. The entire oil industry has figured it out and they are in a panic. I wish the American public would get a clue though.

I don't know what the solution is but EVERYONE wants an alternative source of energy right now. Iran is no different than anywhere else. The world ought to be working together to come up with an alternative before it is too late rather than starting wars over the dregs of the worlds nearly empty oil tanks.

10. i agree totally
i just don't understand the secrecy-why not lay it out like it is-we are in deep shit and its going to take alot of sacrafice and investment in r and d and even then America is fucked but if we start now it may not be that bad---even if they bomb iran they still dont get the oil

probably is for weapons eventually, but for defense not offense like everyone else.

5. They'll roll over. "Support Our Troops" and flagwaving trumps courage.
For the few, very few, politicians that have enough courage to stand up to the "patriotism" of war, it will mean that they'll be castigated as "soft on defense" or "giving aid to the enemy". The "enemy" being whoever the bosses decide that is this week.

6. 13 People thing they'll all oppose the war (except for Lieberman)????
That's funny.

P.S. I can damn well guarantee Ben Nelson of Nebraska will be rooting for the bush** admin and making his usual excuses as to 'why this war is necessary'.

And so will 2/3s of the rest of the appeasers. (Don't get me wrong, this is one of those occasions where I'd love to be wrong.)

17. I would like to be wrong on a lot of this stuff too
I'd like to think the Dems are going to light all that powder they are keeping dry and that Kerry is playing a very long term chess game with these assholes and that Hillary is still progressive under the spin.

Maybe it's true. But we can't depend on hope and guesses alone.

19. yeah, Dems seem to think political capital is finite--use it and lose it
in reality, if you use it for the right things, you get more.

John Conyers doesn't seem to be running out of any with the public.

12. Democrats still haven't learned to shit or get off the pot, you would
think that after 9/11, Iraq/WMD intel, Prison Scandals, CIA rendition scandals, Plame Scandal, Abramoff scandal, Wiretapping scandal that they would have a concerted opinion about something.

No they will fall in line like the republican clone wannabes that they would love to be.

13. Depends on how they do it and how Iran responds.
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 12:57 PM by McCamy Taylor
The proof about "Hostages for Votes" will be distributed for world consumption through the western news media, and this will cause a major stink, which may alter how the Dems will respond. Plus, Iran may not respond aggressively. Instead, they may do a PR war, get CHina to come in on their side as their protector bringing humanitarian aid and a lot of Chinese people as willing human shields whom the US DARE NOT BOMB for fear of angering our big economic partner, show a lot of newsreel of dead women and children to get the world's symapthy. If they do this, the Dems will be unilaterally opposed to the Bush War III.

like our own personal survival. Neither Iran nor the Middle East will take another invasion sitting down.

Sorry - I over-simplified my post and left that out....a very important fact to consider!!

Attacking Iran would just be the dumbest thing we could do - a far worse mistake even than Iraq.
