Hancock (Maine) residents rally for hate crime victim
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 05:04 AM by Maine-ah
Update on 7 month pregnant woman who was kicked in the stomach, and had racial slurs yelled at her:

HANCOCK - Sarah Norris never expected hundreds of people, most of whom she had never met, to attend her baby shower.

But approximately 200 people showed up Sunday at the local village green, bringing piles of gifts for Norris’ unborn daughter, who is due Oct. 27. They wanted to make her and her baby feel welcome in Hancock County, knowing that things could have turned out very differently for them on Sept. 9.

Norris, 21, of Trenton, was attacked that day outside a local convenience store by a man who allegedly threw a beer can at her, kicked her in the abdomen and shouted "white power" and other racial epithets at her.

On Sunday, she said she was overwhelmed by the number of people who gathered at the green to help welcome her baby into the world and to denounce the kind of racist thinking that led to last week’s violent attack.

1. What a wonderful story!
Thank you so much for sharing it! What a lovely way for people to try to show that they totally disagree with the disgraseful way this young woman was treated by the racist actions of some of the town degenerates.

2. This gives me hope for the world.
Instead of looking for excuses, or brushing it under the rug, Hancock County is doing what they can to make up. I hope Sarah's baby is born healthy...into a better world.

3. This is how true Maine-ah's are
and this story really hit home for me, I'm 7 months pregnant as well. I wish I could have attended the shower for this woman, and tell her how much we support her and hope that bastard goes to prison for a long time.

5. thanks Mrs. G.
I am hoping the same for the woman in Hancock. I can only imagine how long the pain of this is going to last with her.

7. It's a smart thing to do, too
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 08:42 AM by DesertedRose
This action essentially telegraphs to out-of-state racists thinking of relocating to a 'predominately white' state that this is how they will be received if they try to stir up sh*t.

Thank you, Maine.

Edit: The sad thing is, bushbot racist types DO see her (and her unborn daughter) as a threat. They see anyone who ISN'T LIKE THEM as a threat. *heavy sigh*
