Our Gas prices Dropped to 1.999 Overnite - KC
We are down about $1 a gallon now.

And I filled up yesterday at 2.099 and thought I was doing good.

I talked to my brother in Spokane yesterday and their prices are still close to $3.

1. damn
that must mean its damn near below 2 bucks here. I'm in SW Missouri, and 99% of the time, we are roughly a dime cheaper than KC. My wife and I drive through there about 4 times a year, and KC area is always around a dime more expensive than SW Missouri. I didn't fill up yesterday, nor did I see any SW Missouri gas prices...on friday it was 2.13 a gal though.

4. That makes your gas about
$1.64 before taxes. One of the, if not the lowest in the country. No strange coincidence here as the lowest prices in the country are where there are house or senate races critical to the GOP. I've no doubt this is to help Talent by taking away the high gas price issue.

5. Don't know if this is true or not - but my brother said that
their prices are still affected by the BP oil pipeline closure - even tho most of that gas was being sold to Japan.

Anybody know about that?

9. Trust me, there is no conspiracy
Prices historically drop after labor day, and when that occured it spooked the hedge funds and caused them to jump ship. It might go back up after the election, but only because we would be getting into the peak heating oil season. If Rove can control the global oil economy, there is no hope for us.

15. I'll buy that, but still...
...We're paying $2.69 in upstate NY (Utica suburbs - FAR from New York City). If people in the deepest, darkest parts of Jesusland are paying a buck ninety-nine, something is definitely up.

21. From another thread I posted
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 10:46 AM by Gman
These prices were through Friday, 9/15. Reports are prices have dropped even more this morning.

The 10 states with the lowest prices are:

State Price All Taxes Net
Ohio $2.19 40.40 $1.78
Missouri $2.15 35.40 $1.79
Iowa $2.22 39.50 $1.83
Kansas $2.27 42.40 $1.84
Michigan $2.29 44.60 $1.85
Kentucky $2.25 39.80 $1.85
Minnesota $2.25 38.40 $1.87
Tennessee $2.29 39.80 $1.89
Indiana $2.28 36.50 $1.92
North Dakota $2.32 39.40 $1.93

Oh my goodness! Look who's at the top of the list! Ohio where a GOP trainwreck of biblical proportions is about to occur. Then Mr. Talent's Missouri, the 4 crucial congressional races in IA (one open seat, 3 incumbent pubs), and other states that are do or die for the GOP including normally reliably red Indiana.

The 10 highest prices are:

State Price All Taxes Net
Washington $2.86 41.40 $2.45
Utah $2.87 42.90 $2.44
Idaho $2.87 43.40 $2.43
Nevada $2.94 51.70 $2.43
Colorado $2.81 40.40 $2.40
Oregon $2.82 42.40 $2.39
Wyoming $2.72 32.40 $2.39
California $2.87 50.40 $2.37
New Mexico $2.72 36.40 $2.36
New York $2.83 48.70 $2.34

Note that these high numbers exclude Hawaii (net 2.82) and Alaska (net 2.78).

There are no races considered crucial to the GOP in any of these states.

20. If the CEO's of Big Oil can appear before Congress (unsworn) and act
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 10:50 AM by Gman
like bumps on a log saying, "Ummmm... I dunno." they will do what they need to do to preserve the big oil friendly atmosphere in DC.

Obviously prices are coming down in general. What I believe is happening is the lowest prices are being allocated to states with races critical to the GOP this year and higher (albeit lower than they have been) prices are allocated to states that are true blue and/or have no races critical to the GOP. The overall effect of lower prices is balanced out across the country. Where big oil may be selling gas at cheaper than cost in some states, that loss is more than made up for in other states.

6. Pollsters need to ask folks if they see any connection between lower gas
prices and the approaching mid-term elections? Will they?

I doubt it!

10. I think you would be suprised
I live in a very red county in Missouri, and all of my former Bush supporting neighbors see right through this sham for what it is, a ploy to buy their vote. However I doubt that it will be very effective. Not only are these people disillusioned with Republican policies, but these drops in gas prices are coming a little late to really help them. If they had dropped prices back in the spring, then they would have had a better chance to pick up the rural, famer vote. As it is, after an energy intensive spring and summer of farming, these drops now are too little, too late.

However that doesn't mean we won't be taking advantage of the low prices. I know many people, myself included, who are going to stock up on gas and save it over the winter. Fill up right before the election, when gas is going to be the cheapest.

14. And
most of the farmers/small business owners I know are predominately Diesel run ...and Diesal is still around 3 bucks. I got a bud of mine who owns a sawmill, and 99% of his machines are run on diesal...same with most farmers, they run more diesal than gas(In my experience)...btw, Im in SW Missouri, another very red county...

22. You can buy and keep as much gas as you can afford and store
I invested in some serious metal five gallon gas cans, and will be storing thirty gallons this winter. If you do decide to store some gas over the winter, put some gasoline stablizer in it(available at any auto parts or hardware store) otherwise the gas will deteriorate over the winter and will harm your engine when you do use it.

8. And the voters are supposed to realize that the Republicans
brought them these low prices when they go to the polls on November 7th.

Forget about all those high prices that were on their watch for the last 6 years, they brought them back down... for now

11. I live in Connecticut, but drive to Mass, where it's nearly 25¢ cheaper!
There is no rhyme nor reason. CT used to claim the price disparity was because of the taxes, but when gas was HIGH, it was the same price in CT and MA. Now that it's dropping faster than GOP polling numbers, there is a huge disparity again. Oh, and the return of CASH discounts. I only fill up in the afternoon after twice seeing Mass stations drop the price four or five cents between opening and closing time. Madness.

12. Of course prices are being manipulated because of the election...
prices started coming down DURING the labor day holiday. Not to mention, it is time to calculate the increase for retirees and that increase is based on the inflation rate and the inflation rate factors in the price of gas. They must get the inflation rate down in order to screw seniors.

I would love to see a chart showing the greatest percentage of price drops as reflected by their political stand.
