"Give Him Another Week" - Conn. Editorial rips Lieberman
Almost 50 years ago, a reporter asked President Dwight Eisenhower what major contributions his vice president, Richard M. Nixon, had made to the Eisenhower administration. Ike's response was telling and hilarious. He said, "If you give me a week, I might think of one."

Well, a few days ago, our incumbent junior senator, Joe Lieberman, a former candidate for president and vice president of the United States, told reporters that he needed a few more days to formulate, and properly articulate, his position on the war in Iraq. He wouldn't be talking about it with them until then.

Say what?

This man has been in the U.S. Senate for 18 years and he doesn't know what he thinks, or how to express what he thinks, on the war in Iraq?

Like a kid who is flunking an exam because he doesn't know what to write, Lieberman said he needed "more time." He's had 20 years in politics, but give him another week.

1. We already know what he thinks....he supports the war, he
wouldn't consider it a mistake to have voted for the war even when mislead by the administration, he supports torture, and he believes in supporting this admin no matter what....

That's all we need to know....

3. It's not that
It's the fact that he has been so involved with the Iraq war & everything about it for the last 3+ years that it is unconscionable that he suddenly can't articulate his position on it without another week to study it.

5. That's what boggles my mind.
He has been so adamant and vocal in his support for the war, how can he come out now and not know what he thinks!

:wtf:

Either he is a total MORAN or he is running scared as a chickenhawk should be!!!

10. He's trying to figure out
How to attack the war without looking like a hypocrite and getting the Jewish voters pissed off at him. He needs turnout and I don't see a lot of ways he can do that without making another segment of his base stay home in protest.

11. I don't think it's possible
for him to not look like a hypocrite if he criticizes the war. He is the guy that said that Democrats undermine the president's credibility at our nation's peril.

6. What he needs the week for
is a way to put lipstick on this pig and make it look Kosher.

2. He is trans-partisan?
That's a new one on me. Joe can't come up with an opinion until he researches who he wants to please, perhaps, and what segment will provide the most votes. So he doesn't speak from his gut and heart. I'm with the editor; go home, Joe. You aren't doing anyone any good.

4. Well gee, you can't expect Joe to answer just like that
I mean, whoever asked him about such an obscure topic as the war in Iraq? It's patently unfair to spring such a "gotcha" question on him that nobody could have possibly foreseen as being an election issue. Why are you all politicizing the Global War on Terror? Bush himself said, "Nanny, nanny boo-boo, that is something you can't do."

Poor Joe. All he ever asked for was to be a Senator for life.

7. Wow, that's pretty scathing!
Rightly so, imo. Lieberman has been a VERY VOCAL cheerleader for the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq but now he needs time to develop his position, geez, beyond pathetic.

8. This might make for a good ad
Begin with joe's 'give me a week' statemenet, then go back to clips and statements from the last four years where he didn't have any problem backing bush*s Iraq policy--as a matter of fact, make them the most agregious statements. Lots of possibilities there. Show that joe is a liar and panderer (is that a word?).

9. Joe better not count on Repukes to bail him out
From what I saw in Conn. this weekend with family, they're staying home or casting anti-Bush votes. There is almost no GOP left there, in the accepted sense. And I don't think the indies are going to help much either. The Dems are going to flood the polling booths, and they're PISSED at Lieberman.
