Yes people are by and large idiots. Unfortunately, the more the meme that they are idiots is promoted, the more other people get the impression that fleecing is a good way to make a living, hence our white collar crime epidemic.
I use it. Frequently. But I feel a bit guilty.

9. Most people are idiots |
|
by the strict, original definition of the term.
But a lot of them are morans as well, by the definition of this recently coined word.

6. It says more about the person using it |
|
than it does about the people they are describing.
It also clearly demonstrates that 'divide-and-conquer' is working really well for those in power. It's not working out so well for the people though.

Any term or phrase that guy uses should be shunned, even if he has co-opted it from somewhere else.

8. I associate it with spittle-flecked libertarian nutcases . . . |
|
And it has the same effect on a discussion with me as the term "Nazi" -- it brings the discussion to a close.

And I agree, it's a term used to kick the another person to a lower level, which quashes any possible discussion.

If someone has a different view, then they are sheeple... In other words, it depends on how it is used and who is using it.

17. It means anyone who uses it likes insulting cliches |
|
and uses broadbrush stereotypes. Rather like the "Godwin's Law Corollary" that whoever mentions Hitler has lost the argument, I think that anyone who uses the word hasn't got a proper argument.

"As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
Not what you've asserted.

28. That's why I talked about the corollary, not the original law |
|
see eg Wikipedia: Corollaries and usage There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

19. People on here use the word as if |
|
people in general were just a bunch of idiots being brainwashed by the media. But the people who you see every day probably have their own ideas. Go out and find me one single person who doesn't have an opinion. Go ahead and try.
Okay, some of them aren't interested in politics. But is that any worse than you not being interested in the things that they're interested in? People have different interests. And, besides that, if people who didn't think about politics started thinking about it, in depth, even if they were intelligent people, they might not come to the same conclusions as you. Does that make them unthinking?
Free thought...but only if you agree with us. :eyes:

21. I used to use it, but now I really don't like it |
|
I now feel that with every opinion, every idea, every organization, every creed, there are some great people, and complete assholes who believe in it. And there are always people of every stripe who look down on everyone else. We're all different, we all have our faults, and we all have our strengths.

Its condescending for no other reason than to make the person saying it feel better.
Even more so it tends to be used by the most rigid of ideologues which makes its usage ironic in an annoying fashion.

However, it is an effective neologism insofar as it concisely indicates its meaning by its form, so as a word person, I have no problem with it.

24. It is like every other demeaning word and is |
|
very self congratulatory. It reminds me of the use of the word "Mundane" by science fiction/historical re-enactment groups or "lumpenproletariat" used by the left wing. Would you like it if I refered to you as "Colonials"?
Remember that the people you are refering to can read these threads and that the people you are putting down are the ones whose support you will need. They are the ones who will ensure a successful transition of power from the failed Republican program to the desired Democratic one.

26. Concise, descriptive, and accurate. |
|
It is what we've become, a nation of sheep blindly following the herd wherever that may lead. The evidence is self-evident and overwhelming. It has nothing to do with political affiliation, it merely describes the "don't rock the boat, go along to get along" mentality that has replaced individualism, creating amerika.

31. It's unnecessarily snide and hateful |
|
People who use words like "sheeple" often delight in their own cleverness and mean-spirited snark above all, and reap their pleasures in life by feeling superior to others. I have no use for those people, whether they're on the "left" or "right."
