Poll question: Do you believe that people participating at DU are superior to others? |
|
Specifically other Americans (or citizens of the United States) (and my apologies to DUers from outside the United States). Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

1. I have a couple of neighbors whom I don't get along with politically |
|
but they are more adept at me relative to mechanical issues. We live in harmony and take care of our neighborhood regardless of our political persuasions. They helped me immensely after the hurricane last year with their acumen, I provided as much grunt support as possible.
I guess I'm too dense to understand the concept of superiority.

3. Many may like to think so, but no. |
|
We are no better or worse then anyone else- especially based on participation on a freaking website.

5. I take issue with the use of the word "superior" here... |
|
I would say that members of DU on the whole are more politically aware and active and are more knowledgeable of current events than Americans on the whole, but I don't think that necessarily makes us "superior" to anyone. I equate "superior" with "better than," and I have a problem saying that I'm "better than" anyone else.
Just because A is more politically active than B does not necessarily make A superior to B.
Just my thoughts. :)

People here are superior in that they have discerning political tastes, but some of them are assholes and idiots, so I'd say overall we're no better or worse than the general public.

Superior? Geez, how many of us actually consider such a thing?
Better informed? I think that is a better and more relevent question.

when posters refer to Americans as "AmeriKKKans" and whatnot. Obviously there are some DU'ers who need to seriously examine what they base their self worth on.

11. Heck no... but there are a few who have a |
|
superiority complex!
Most of us here are immune to the Kool-Aid, that's the only difference. Notice, I said "most".

15. I think the phrase should |
|
be "better informed" or "more politically interested" .... there is a large group of people out there that just do not take an interest in politics, (my neighbors on both sides of the fence) - do I feel superior? Sometimes, but then again, I also wish that being ignorant would give me a degree of satisfaction. Oh, to long for the days of a blue dress and a stain.

23. And there's also a large group of people... |
|
who are quite well-informed (because they do things like read 10 or 15 different interational newspaper sites every day) who see no reason to participate in online discussion forums. This particular forum has had 94K user registrations in five years; as a percentage of the US population, or even as a percentage of the adult US population that regularly uses the Internet and WWW, that number is miniscule.

29. People getting to you? |
|
I'll share my remedy. It's not 100% effective, but it works more than it doesn't.
Take a hot bubble bath with some soft music in the background and a copy of your favorite non-political book. If it's been a particularly bad day I may also add a glass of wine to the mix.
