"Learning to read is part of the war on terra." |
|
Excuse me if this has been posted previously; I just heard this little tidbit on the news. Apparently, the Pretzeldent, in speaking to a literacy group today (yeah, I know), says that learning to read is part of the war on terror. If the suicide bombers had learned to read, then they would not have felt hopeless, and would not have killed themselves and others. WTF?
So, using Georgie's twisted logic, one conclusion I can come to is that he must be a terrorist, because we all know reading is not his forte.
Someone please, lock him away and save us from him!

I guess if my name is on any "enemy list", they can remove it, as I, too, am quite literate.

Not littering is part of TWOT.
Looking both ways before you cross the street is part of TWOT.
Brushing your teeth after every meal is part of TWOT.
Being kind to your brothers and sisters is part of TWOT.
Putting away your toys...
Well... you get the idea.

7. Well, see, that's just some of the stuff *all* of us can do |
|
Y'know — clean our plates and obey traffic laws and stuff. Oh, and rat out neighbors who seem "suspicious."
It gets more complicated when you start talkin' bombs 'n' shit.

4. I'm guessing that most of the 'suicide bombers' Shrub refers... |
|
...to can read very well. They read the Koran diligently and often write letters to their families before going about their grisly work.
To paraphrase Wolfgang Pauli, Bush's statement is so nonsensical, it's not even wrong.

On edit: And, for freak's sakes, who were the 9/11 hijackers? Illiterate kids or middle-class college boys? Sheesh.

Trying to tie literacy to terrorism?? What's next? Having a low credit score makes you a terrorist? Oh wait, I remember now -- he said that poor people aren't necessarily killers.

Indeed, Mr. Bush, literacy is a mighty blow struck against a deadly enemy. Ignorance.

And you and I both know that Bush is, and will remain, ignorant. Reading is apparently not for him, unless is The Pet Goat. (And no, I do not believe he's read Camus or anything else above the level of a child's book or comic book.)

I cannot imagine that he enjoys reading. And why should he? It does not make him richer, or more secure in his wealth. It does not feed any of his appetites nor does it does not flatter him. Why should he bother?
