If conscription is coming,
what medical deferments will there be (wanted to know due to my sons)?

1. Does your community have a draft board in waiting?
See if you do have such a board and write them.

For my two cents worth, conscription means death to
neocon dreams.

When war murder mayhem and the new American
Crusades involves all of us and not just our poor
then more than just deferments will be working
to help your sons stay out of the military.

Maybe a letter expressing any thoughts they may
have about the insanity of war would be a help.

Good Luck.

2. That will be up to the Induction Center Doctors
The way that it's set up to work now, is the draftee will report for his medical exam and if the doctors find a problem, or a pre-existing condition then a deferment will be given.

Whatever may be wrong with your sons, make sure that you have documentation of their medical history.

3. Conscription is NOT coming under the * administration.
They'll out-source the work through Halliburton to Chechen freedom fighters, Somali warlords, Tamil Tigers, and to the Pakistani ISI before they make that move.

9. Every politician knows that the draft is Kryptonite to US superpower.
It is going to be avoided at all costs. Invoking it will guarantee civil unrest that will hit the nation like a tsunami.

I'm not kidding when I tell you they will simply out-source the work to poor brown peoples. The use of mercenaries has a long long tradition in propping up empires.

6. Bad back works every time
If I had a draft age son he would be making bi-weekly visits to my personal physician complaining of lower back pain regularly. I would have a nice medical case built up to prevent him from dying for Bush in a jiffy.

8. Check the Weight Limits
Back in 1969 when my husband got his draft notice and went for his physical, he was about 15 pounds away from being overweight. How easy that would have been to achieve! Fortunately, I was overweight and expecting a baby so he got a deferment. At your son's age, it would not be hard to drop the pounds he could put on to avoid being drafter.

But don't worry, as others have said, it ain't gonna happen!

10. The best way to avoid the draft:
Your son just needs to say he's gay.
