Gore To Stand Up Against "Truthiness"

<snip>

Al Gore continues to fight back against "truthiness."

The former vice president's next project is a book, The Assault On Reason, to be published next spring.

Sounds like another, much-needed effort to fight the fact that we live in an age when a group of people -- loosely known as the "conservative media" -- have woefully misinformed their viewers and listeners.

1. When I think of how different this country and the world would be
today if President Gore had been sworn in on January 20, 2001, I literally weep.

2. Let me share your hanky.
The night of that election, I took the dog out for a walk and cried in the darkness.

3. Me too. The non-stop misery Mr. Bush has inflicted on us all,
the worst of which we won't even feel for another 5 years, makes me sick. Of course by then, he and his ilk will be sittin' pretty, back on the pig farm, laughing at what they put over on us.

8. i've felt anger. i've disagreed vehemently. I've been upset ...
but I never thought I'd be ashamed of Bush.

That moment came for me when Bush said, for the umpteenth time, that the U.S. would not dedicate itself to capturing Osama.

It dawned on me that we are fighting a war, with 2,700 dead and 20,000 injured, on the original premise that Saddam might have had ties with Al Qaeda, might have harbored Al Zarqawi, might have potentially started up a new WMD program, might have passed along WMD to terrorists, might have created a safe haven for terrorists.

The only actual thing we had on Saddam was that he was sending money to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers. Everything else was a "might." Condi said it, that we didn't want the answer to someday be a "mushroom cloud" -- something that might happen.

But Osama, who led the group that actually did hit us on Sept. 11, isn't worth our trouble? Osama, whose group was behind the London, Madrid, Riyadh, Istanbul, etc., bombings, whose group might have been tied to the proposed blowing up of airplanes over the Atlantic, who continues to pose a horrible threat -- if you listen to Bush's own words -- that's the guy we can't be bothered trying to catch?

Shame!

I honestly believe that Joe Lieberman would now be president, after
the assassination of President Gore fairly early in his first term.

4. The last night of good sleep I've had, I went to bed knowing that Big Al
was going to be my next President and when I turned the teevee on about 4 the next morning and it became evident it wasn't going to be as easy as to win an election he/we would have to fight. The deck was stacked against us. I have been in a slump since.

9. I was very upset in 2000 but not nearly as much as in 2004. I completely
"misunderestimated" how bad and evil * was going to be. I had no idea how far past redemption it was possible to go.

15. if Gore were to make a late run
he'd not have the money that hillary or edwards may have. that might make him popular in an RFK-1968 way, but might make it tough for him to win.
