Al Gore just walked by me and into my office building!
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 10:19 AM by YOY
Here I was on a smoke break outside my office with some colleagues and I see a Mercedes cab roll up. Seems a little odd for my building, but out jumps Al Gore.

By himself no butt-loads of security, no entourage, no pomp and flags, just Al and his briefcase. He walked in the building without any ado and met his party to go to the upper floors. The normalcy of the situation and of the man himself was quite shocking! Just an average guy going to meet some people without a bevy of sicophants attached nor any machine gun toting security measures.

All of the sudden my office has a good feeling.

I wanted to hug the man.

I walked pass Jimmy Carter in the Airport and didn't know it till a Worker showed me his autograph.. I almost ran back... but running in the airport is not a good idea.

Just a pack of Camel Untralights (BAD YOY! BAD!)

If I see him leave, I'll get it! I was just amazed by the average Joe-ness of the situation!

7. I bumped into Dukakis once
I was walking towards Coolidge Corner in Brookline, MA (Boston), and he was just walking the other way. Just out for a stroll. Said hi. I couldn't help but think that a simple twist of fate would probably have prevented him from ever having a simple walk through town on a nice day. It was surreal.

Even well after his presidency.

Regular citizenry like us cussing him out are the least of his worries.

Of Gore, Kerry and Obama in 2008. President Gore deserves to take over the office the corrupt thugs stole from him.

3. I remember when I met Al Gore
It was actually after the 2000 election and Gore was in town to do a fundraiser for the guy running for DE Attorney General. I was a volunteer working the sign-in desk and we were starting to pack things up and go in and join the event. I was doing something mundane like putting check numbers next to the list of people showed up when one of the other volunteers at the desk (who was also a DUer - Molly), taps me on my shoulder and tells me to look up - It was Al Gore and he had his hand stuck out to shake my hand. I got up shoke his hand and he talked with us volunteers for about 2-3 minutes before heading into the the banquet

22. oh goodness! I have to say...
that's very sad! I think you need to find your nearest Dem Congressman in your area and just say "Hi, didn't want to do anything other than shake your hand, because the only politician I've ever seen was David Duke, and I feel dirty."

I've met Kasich, Glenn, John Kerry (he spoke to me, and waved by to me, and I'm sorry, he was admirable in those debates, osama tape is what beat him, unless you want to say Blackwell in OH) and Senator Bill Nelson. I've seen John Edwards from 50 feet away give a speech.

And I think to myself, gosh there has to be people on DU that have talked to DOZENS of famous politicians, and seen a hundred of them.

be safe to say that if she gave him "a piece of her mind", she wouldn't have any left. A piece is all she has. Anyway, congrats on seeing Al Gore. I'd be so excited I'd probably pee myself!

Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 09:12 PM by RestoreGore
After waiting eighteen years, I got to shake his hand at a book signing this past July. It will be ingrained in my memory forever. What a presence he is. And uh oh, a Mercedes cab? Was it a hybrid? We wouldn't want him getting ripped for that too.

I can't say I blame him.

Consider the huge cavalcades of SUVs the GOP uses when showing off their ultimate might that one so often sees in DC...often with visably armed (submachine guns) guards playing tough guy around them.

31. Happened to me, at first, when I met Jon Fishman
drummer from the band Phish.

During their hiatus between 2000 and 2003, he was playing with his side project, Pork Tornado, at a small bar in Lawrence, KS.

Doors were supposed to be at 830, so my bro and I got there early.

Of course, they weren't open yet. But we were some of the only people there.

We waited outside so we could get in, maybe hear a soundcheck, get seated, and start drinking.

Then, the doors open, and out walks Fish, in street clothes (when he performs with Phish he wears this hideous house dress) and by himself.

He paused for a second, expecting us to talk to him, but we were stunned to see him, of all people, walk out the door alone.

So he walked past us and onto the bus.

But we stopped him when he came back out and got to talk for a bit.
