"This was posted on a country music message board"

Give a monkey a typewriter and sooner or later, he’ll get a word right. Give crooked politicians control of our government and sooner or later, they’ll pass a good bill. The GOP is sponsoring a bill in Congress that would mandate a very simple, very logical requirement on election day at the polls–that before someone is allowed to vote, they must actually present some form of identification to show that they are who they say they are, and that they are legally entitled to vote. Naturally the Democrats (many of whom count on illegal votes) are going ballistic.

According to an article in Salon magazine, “Most major civil rights organizations, from the NAACP to the National Council of La Raza, have said that the proposal will disproportionately prevent poor and minority citizens from voting. AARP, a nonpartisan lobby for the elderly, has cautioned that many persons who are qualified to vote but do not have ready access to documents — such as birth certificates, driver’s licenses and passports — that never have been deemed necessary in the past may lose the fundamental right to vote. Democrats have charged that Republicans are just trying to keep liberal voters from the polls.” Yeah, well, nothing wrong with that, in principle.

According to Salon, “Under the Republican proposal, all American voters will have to present valid government-issued photo identifications to vote in federal elections beginning in 2008. If voters do not have an I.D. handy on Election Day, they can cast a provisional ballot, but the ballot will be counted only if an actual photo I.D. is produced within 48 hours. The bill also provides federal money to provide free identification cards to any citizen who cannot afford the typical government processing fees.”

In other words, the Republicans are trying to make sure that at the 2008 elections, the Democrats don’t sneak millions of illegal aliens into the polls. Slimey as Karl Rove may be, it’s pretty hard to find an argument against that. I mean, who in this society who is legal and a citizen can NOT produce a driver’s license or a state photo ID? Legal people have to produce them all the time. When someone cannot produce a photo ID for something as important as voting, the election board officials at the polls certainly are entitled to ask why not?

Hey...their Focus Groups have told them how to HOODWINK US! So...should we complain? He DOES SOMETIMES TRY to APPEAR to be FAIR AND BALANCED!

Shouldn't we give LOU DOBBS the BREAK we give Keith Olbermann?

21. How do you get millions of illegals registered to vote so that their
names show up on voter rolls on election day? If an illegal registered to vote the county registrar would not accept the application.

14. Citizenship for all who will vote?
Personally I would favor granting citizenship to all adults who will come to the polls to vote, provided that they can show proof of gainful employment and have no record of any felony convictions. In the long run we will have better citizens that way than by simply granting American citizenship to people who were born here, including those who will not work and those who become felons. True, most of such new citizens would indeed probably vote for the Democrats but that is simply another good reason to do this IMO!

19. What about my beloved Granny in the Nursing Home?
 How do we deal with her or her counterpart "Beloved Grandpa...who struggled through snows and rain to cast his vote?" These are people who "walked to school" and they have seen America from the Plains to the Shore...and the invention of the Automobile and Aeroplane.

How can we TOSS THEM? And, think of your OWN PARENTS and what they've seen as they follow "Granny/Grandpa" into the Nursing Home or "Assisted Living."

Do you want to drive them around to get their BUSH CREDENTIALS to VOTE? when they've been able to VOTE since Suffragette Days?

Think about this! Do you really want to be wheeling Oldies OUT to get Bush "Photo Ops" for I.D.'s to VOTE! THINK!!!!!!!!!!!

20. Something that bothers me frequently
The dems do a shitty job of fighting the RW rhetoric on voter ID. Why don't we have people out there explaining the right way to do it (make voting accurate) and why the GA ID law was nothing but an attempt to suppress votes!
