I'm talking about this, to reach out and see if this has happened to anyone else here? I get a lot of 'spam' in my mail, regardless of all my attempts to block it. I've been getting messages in some kind of 'script' that I don't recognize. Certainly not in English and I really don't know what it is. No idea what is says, and even who sent it..and why. For all I know, I could be receiving mail in arabic or some such language and it could be being tracked into my E-mail..
Anyone else getting this stuff?

The characters are not on my keyboard. Can't post a paragraph, other than to copy and paste. Will try to do it this way. Thanks

3. DO NOT OPEN EMAIL FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES!! |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 04:27 PM by Juniperx
Yes, I'm getting all sorts of bizarre junk mail. Don't open it! There is an invisible .gif that can be added to the body of an email that can give you a virus, or report your IP address back to its sender. I'm sure there are even more sophisticated spy devices out there than what we know.
There is a lot of it out there disguised as porn too. BEWARE!

I've gotten stuff like this several times in the past and it was in Russian. I just deleted it.

5. My multiple SPAM-filters |
|
block-out almost all SPAM. (Although my ISP stops the great majority of it)
However, in recent memory I did receive one email (apparently) from Pakistan, which was some scam... but minus some of the usual bs (although otherwise rather well-done).
If incoming email from "terrorist sources" is being spied upon, then just about any domestic email-user could potentially be identified as a recipient (an intended/direct recipient), ie -- as a "person of interest".
Oh, and I deleted it.

6. Those are my fears exactly! |

All you have to do is open that email to confirm the address for the sender and boom! You are on some stupid list as having received email from a terrorist group!
Sneaky and shitty and oh, so Bush Regime-esque!

7. turn off preview window and don't worry about it |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 05:25 PM by dusmcj
if you use outlook dreckspress, you can see the text via right-click->properties on the header (entry in your inbox list) if you reeeeeeally want to.
I get crap in russian, chinese, korean, and hindi and I don't give a shit. shift-leftclick marks a page worth of headers, and delete whacks em. By turning off the preview window, you're preventing automatic website references, which are what can get you trouble if your email points to kiddie porn or Bin-Ladin's Bomb Emporium.
This is true of Dreckspress, you need to learn how your particular mail program works (there is no substitute - Read The Fine Manual, or help pages).
If the NSA wants to followup every piece of spam for penis enlargement from Turkestan, they're going to be busy boys, even if they do have enough disk storage to cover the state of Maryland to a depth of 10 feet. (Inference, boys, I have no privileged information which would confirm or deny that rumor.)
