Should John Kerry lead the filibuster?

I just noticed everyone signing on to a petition for John Kerry...Does that mean he is going to lead a filibuster if he gets enough signatures?

Voting against Alito isn't good enough. Why doesn't he just go ahead and lead the filibuster?

6. You know strategically the one who should lead it would be--Lieberman

if he is opposed to Alito and supports the filibuster. Why? he has a reputation as a "concensus" Democrat in the media and if he leads it (with the support, obviously of the other Dem Senators) it would probably have more impact than if Kerry or Feingold or somebody like that led it--because you would expect them to do that--not Lieberman.

...Lieberman lost against Bush/Cheney in 2000.

Those in the media searching for an "axe to grind" would hype this fact over any consensus building he has done.

Better a Dem from a "red state" who's not up for re-election this year.

As much as I like Kerry, if he were the only one leading it (something that I think is unlikely) the coverage would be "Kerry the sore loser pretending that he's president." And unfortunately, an awful lot of people, including a lot of Democrats, would accept that.

He should be A leader, but not the only one.

Keep in mind, however, that is just an internet rumor, and if Kerry DOESN'T filibuster then we're going to have DU'ers screaming that Kerry's a sellout again and saying that he IS a flip-flopper when we have no confirmation that he actually said he would lead the filibuster in the first place.

17. You do understand that

He can't do this alone. He needs 40 other Senators to go along with him. As much as he and other Dems are willing, basically, they need most of the Democratic members of the gang of 14 to go along with them.
