How would you classify your political leanings?
I'm new here and consider myself a more or less traditional democrat. I'm an active union member (cwa local 3205), and that probably influences my beliefs more than anything. On DU i seem to be near the middle, but there's a lot of diversity.

6. Pushed further and further left by the current administration.
I'm practically a communist, these days...

Pro-union, pro-progressive taxes, pro-public health. In general I believe in legislating much more actively for the environment. Right now, we're on an unsustainable course...

11. A very good self-assessment test is available at:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/

I took the test and scored 9.63 economic Left (max is 10) and 5.03 social libertarian (max is again 10). This feels accurate, though as other posters have said of themselves, I too am being driven still further Left (and therefore less libertarian) by the need to resist the fascist takeover of America.

Mine came out at Economic Left/Right: -4.75; Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.08 - somewhere near Gandhi. Cool test!
Other test: On Non-Fiscal Issues, you rank as a Strong Liberal (7). On Fiscal Issues, you rank as a Strong Liberal (13).
Jeez, I always thought I was somewhat more of a moderate on fiscal issues, lol.

25. I find it interesting my 9.63 Left is merely my 100 percent adherence...
to the thoroughly American values of the New Deal -- essentially the application of the historical truth of class struggle to the economic problems of constitutional democracy, including the central notion of government as our protector against the bottomless savagery of the capitalists.

19. I was a complete moderate in everything untill 2000
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 06:16 PM by DanCa
The church where I live blocked my confirmation in October of 2000, when I wouldn't take pictures of woman entering abortion clinics. They wanted to put the woman's picture in the local paper. When I refused they pressured the priest into not confirming me. I can't stand the lot of them.

Jump to May of 2003 when I was DXD with young onset parkinsons. Since that day I have become very active in the party. Every year I go to Capitol Hill and lobby for parkinsons reasearch, health care, disability, and stem cell research. Isn't it ironic that the same people who threw me out of thier priecious church are also the ones that want to block my attempts at finding a cure.

Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 06:34 PM by justabob
Economic Left/Right: -7.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.31 by Political Compass' measure.

In my own words though.... I am an economic populist and social libertarian. I believe in separation of powers, separation of church and state, the Bill of Rights and the framework outlined in the US Constitution..... and plain ol' common sense. I have been called "too radical" by dems and a "traitor" by reps. I stand with the Democrats now because they are not republicans (most of them anyway).... I guess that makes me an Independent technically.

on edit: added an "and"
