If pro-Bush Harper and the Conservatives win in Canada... |
|
you can just forget about fleeing to Canada if the Bushites really start cracking down on our freedoms. If there is a declaration of martial law in this country, you will be sent back from the Canadian border. Plus, I think Harper would also crack down on civil liberties about the same time as Bush does here.
Despite that, there are places to flee besides Canada. Just head South. How's your Spanish?

A Canadian conservative doesn't have a lot in common with an American neocon. Canadian conservatives are conservative, yes, but live in the world of reality.

5. Yeah but do you know anything about Harper? |
|
This man is nuts. He would sooner send his own country down the river. Plus he is in league with the religious fundies on both sides of the border. Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney were Canadian Conservatives, Harper is a right-wing Bush fanatic!

2. Bastante bien, gracias. |

But I was hoping the Canadians would come down and liberate us eventually. Obviously that would never happen under George W. Harper.

3. They aren't going to win a majority, but they will probably |
|
pick up enought seats in the house to force coalition status as a large minority.

And if Mexico isn't to your liking, you can keep heading further south to friendlier (more liberal) climes ... I agree about Harper -- I can't believe that Canadians would put him in charge, but I've heard he received campaign contributions (and election advice) from (guess who?) American Rethugs so who's to say the Cons are as far ahead as they appear to be. Fingers crossed tonight shows surprsingly strong turnout for NDP!

The left trend seems to be moving into Mexico. Obrador is leading in the polls. I do hope he wins! Latin America is looking good everyday! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10922714/from/RSS/

6. And how many people actually left the US after 2004? |
|
There were a sh!t load of people saying they were going to leave after the election (just search the DU archives) and they are still here.
Leaving the US for Canada is just something popular to say by people who will never get around to it.

Canada saw this expotential explosion(they were blown away) in hits to their immigration website right around the election.
Immigration figures did not go up in any appreciable way afterwards though.

13. Doesn't surprise me... |
|
the fakes that always claim they are leaving the US after an election aren't going to do it once they realize it is a bigger process than just loading up the car and driving to the border.
Yet they will still fill up DU with wasted bandwidth about how they are fed up and are going to leave the US. Maybe if they did more than talk about anything, we would be in power now.

They can just declare you a terrorist and go after you over the border.

14. Keep in mind that Harper will only have a minority government |
|
and will not have as free a hand as Bush does.
