Correction? Kerry staffer- K will support filibuster, not lead filibuster
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 06:53 PM by IndyOp
So far - I am just keeping my wits about me - and interpreting posts cautiously - we have a phone conversation that suggests that Kerry will lead a filibuster and we have an email that says Kerry will support a filibuster...those are two different actions entirely.

I remain guardedly optimistic... :shrug:

==============

Sandnsea has an email that says:

Yes, Kerry would vote no on cloture (i.e. support a filibuster) – so that’s correct.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks!

==============
While IanDB had the following phone exchange with a Kerry staffer:

"I thanked the staffer for Kerry saying he was going to vote against Alito. Then I asked, "But instead of just voting against him, is the senator going to Filibuster?"

The answer I got was, "Yes, he is."

There's always a chance that there was a misunderstanding of somekind, but I thought I was being pretty clear.

==============

Emails are more certain than phone conversations - Kerry's staffer might have thought that IanDB was asking - will he support a filibuster, as opposed to will he lead a filibuster...

1. Protocol says filibuster should come from Judiciary Committee member or
Harry Reid.

2. Yep. It is fine for Kerry to say he will support one if it happens...
But I don't think he is going to announce that one *will* happen...

4. Could it be that whoever lead the filibuster is Presidential material?

5. I knew this was too good to be true - Kerry, ask Murtha, he's got balls!
Kerry and Hillary - Obama can sit back and take a cue before making comment or lead support to their own party!

8. Uh, Murtha's not in the Senate

Also, Reid, being the caucus leader, will need to determine if there are sufficient votes, and thus the decision to filibuster will likely remain with him. Seriously, Kerry will support any filibuster, and you have the gall to call him a coward? That's beyond unreasonable and ridiculous. I suppose anything short of taking an Uzi to Bush in an epic shootout is inadequate to some people here... and even that, people would probably say "he didn't kill enough of them! The coward! I will now go spit upon his corpse!"

And the circular firing squad continues. I'm so proud to be a member of the liberal netroots. :eyes:

7. I suppose the interpretation
by merely saying that he would support a fillibuster and vote no on cloture, and being among the first to even say THAT much, makes him a leader of sorts.

And by sending out his email, seeking signatures aimed at his fellow Senators, one could also say tha he's putting pressure on them.

Depends on what a person means by lead I suppose. He'll vote for it.

Even Feingold hasn't said that much yet. I don't think anyone, when asked, has said how their voting on cloture.

I dunno. You're analysis is likely close to the truth, though. Emotions are high. Folks are reading too much into the littlest news.

Maybe the Dems are in stealth mode. We'll find out soon what the plan is. All we can do in the meanwhile is keep the pressure up.
