I'm cool with your posts, but overflow from one thread into another is bad. I have no idea what you guys are arguing about.

9. Take a little water with it, Tom . . . |

better yet, get some sleep. Four posts in a little over an hour on the same topic, and you scream at someone else to "prove themselves"? Time to pack it in -- take a smoke break and get some shuteye. You'll function better in the morning.

10. Don't get me started on smoking Tom :) |
|
One thing that drove my mom to vote repug was that dems kept wanting to control her life.
Sure, abortion was a great thing for all to do - choice and all that, but mom was too old to have to even worry about it. She did worry about smoking (which was not the cause of her death at 70 nor her dad's when he died at 86, even though both smoked an ass load) and how people wanted to control that.
hell,I remember smoking rooms in hospitals, and I smoked 20 years ago as I did my rounds as a security guard at the hall of justice. Now-a-days you cannot even smoke near the front entrance (thanks mostly to dems here).
So what were dems fighting against all these years, was it the repugs, wars, etc? Nope, the one thing they can claim they conquered was fellow dems happily smoking. They sure beat us real good....
By my reckoning that is ok though (if I use dem logic) - more people die of smoking then 9/11 and iraq right?
One last thing. My mom was the coolest person I ever met. Best women I ever knew hands down. Helped more people than most I now know of. But she voted repug usually. Why? Because, in her view (and she told me this time and again, even when I was young and liking carter) dems wanted to control everything you did from garage sales (when dems won here in Columbus, you then needed a permit for a garage sale) to seat belts, to smoking. We lose the good people to the little things sadly....
I don't need no damn nanny state.

So true. State nannyism, and capitulation to BS. The two things keeping the Dems from absolutly blowing through the roof.

24. Is amazing to me how dems can be for choice, while limiting it |
|
all over the board.
Gay, abortions, ok by dems. Want to have a yard sale, smoke, fix cars in your driveway - fuck you. It was not this way here for a long time. Dems want to make your life more controlled and better, for your own sake. I don't need theocrats looking out for me anymore than I do anyone else.
Own a business and want choice in smoking/non-smoking - sorry, you are too stupid to make a choice so we make it for you. Our way is the one true way. Nothing pisses me off more than some elected asshole telling me and others what is best for us then making laws about it.
People bitch all day here on DU about christians and how they fear they want to impose their beliefs on others, then fall head over heels for a dem candidate that wants to do the same, sans religion. I am sick of people telling me what is best for me and making laws to punish me if I do not conform.

That's the whole thing. There is little difference between great people who had a concept of God (Einstien, Godel) and great people who did not, like Dawkins...They are all open minded. But The close minded are the close minded, whether they take the form of an opressive cult or church, or the religions of state. The point is, it takes courage to think for yourself, and let others be themselves. Those that would control us all have an entirely negative concept of humanity, that we can never know what's good for us. Those that give us freedom truly love us, all of humanity, and believe in our ability to choose our own destiny. I must confess I am totally aligned with the latter, whatever party they work through.

I like most of your stuff
But then, I have a problem with smokers. I quit 12 years ago. Yesterday, I was walking behind a guy smoking...I had to go across the street to walk on the other side (sinus problems & difficulty breathing). However, as much as I hate being exposed to smoke, nothing beats my hate for right-wingers and Republicans...

26. Well you're surely doing a good job enabling Republicans |
|
Nothing like contribution to the Tobacco Industry that has donated MILLIONS to get Bush and his regime elected.
And such a lovely distracting thread to keep us distracted from real issues like the war.
I laugh at the fact you'll be outside looking in simply so you can feed your addiction. Philly just banned indoor smoking :woohoo: I wonder who is next? I wonder how much more taxes they'll add to your habit?
So glad I can stay warm, inside and save my money & lungs
