Please Lord, take Osama out by indisputable natural causes. |
|
Osama's sick. Osama's dead. We know where he's hiding and we're gonna git him. Karl Rove is waiting until October....etc. Lotta rumors going around.
My wish is simple. That Osama die immediately (or has already died) of natural causes, and that it is verifiable that it was natural causes.
1)It will deny Bush the credit, and remove any potential crowing by the GOP and right wing. (Although we know that they'll take credit anyway. "It was our plan to put him under so much stress for so long that he'd get sick and die. It was part of our plan in the War On Terror all along.)
2)It would avoid, or at least reduce, the inevtitable counter-reaction of anger towards the US in the Muslim world. If we capture or kill him, it'll create some really rocky moments.

3. I understand completely |
|
And the Muslims being upset about whatever treatment Osama would get would be directed at the US treatment of the Muslim world since 911, and any disproval they may have of Osama's tactics will get buried in that and taken by the freepers as justification that all the Muslims "want us dead."

4. I believe he's dead and I also think Bush knows where his |
|

body is. His body is probably being kept in Saudi Arabia probably in an unmarked grave. There is a deal between Bush and his hand holding Saudi prince friends to keep this a secret so that Bush can put out threats from Osama any time he needs to scare the American people. It's a possibility anyway.
Another possibility is that the CIA has his body on ice somewhere in secret and we won't know he is dead until the time is ripe for Bush to trot him out for a photo op. "We killed Osama and here's his body," kind of thing.
When we put Bush on trial we should force him to answer to this and many other unanswered questions.

22. I just don't get why Rove would announce that it's coming |
|
If it was Osama's dead body, wouldn't that be verification that he has been on ice and BushCo already knows about it? How would that help them?
I think Rove still has something else up his sleeve.

8. That's why my post said Indisputable natural causes... |
|
Since this is fantasizing at this point, I would hope that it be brought out by those on the Muslim side, with verification from legitimate medical sources, to avoid any room for such illusiory credir or fudging by the GOP.

5. I would rather he was captured and tried. |
|
It's a bit late for it to be an unalloyed victory for Bush now, as the five years that it took (well, 13 years really) mean that any Republican gloating would ring pretty hollow.
Even the small bounce the capture gave Bush would be worth it to secure Osama as an information source. We could learn a terrific amount from him, and neutralise a potent propaganda figure for extremists without martyring him in combat.
Furthermore, I think the psychological effect of his capture, trial and execution would be very important for the American people. It gives a bit of closure to 9/11; the rationale behind monotonous continuation of the "war on terror" would crumble without this scarlet pimpernel. I think demands for peace would grow.
Well, it's a thought, and as valid as any other scenario.

9. I can't envision Osama becoming a canary |
|
And unfortunately, there are enough Americans who would be convinced that this would mean they should support the GOP, and thge media would trumpet the "Bush regains trust and support of Amereicans after his great victory."

13. Well, like I said, it's just a scenario. |
|
However hard the media spins it for Bush, the fact is that the propaganda value of a dead/captured Osama wanes by the day. People know that every day that has passed is a failure for Bush, and attempting to turn it into a huge success has the potential to really backfire for him, I think. All those months of downplaying Osama's importance, and now his capture is a huge victory? I don't put anything past Bush or the media, but that's quite a spin there. Maybe if Bush caught Osama in the act of lighting the fuse to gunpowder barrels under the White House after following that shifty-looking gardener that Clinton hired ...
As for Osama turning canary, he's quite the ego and bigmouth, as we've learned from his tapes. He'd relish the platform, I'd expect. In terms of operational details we'd probably learn next to nothing, Ozzie probably knows nothing about them, but given the opportunity to boast about how he planned past attacks? We could learn a lot that way. He'd also go to a lot of trouble to embarrass Bush.
But, as I say, just thinking out loud.

But I really do dread the prospect of Bush holding a press conference in October and saying (in the words of Paul Bermner):

that with the millions he's been paid off to be our sworn enemy that he's going to reveal all that? At least if he's dead the best the bushies can say is "we avoided another attack until bin laden died", but they still can't say that he was captured/killed by us or our 'allies'. The natural death of bin Laden is Bush's worse nightmare...Rove's as well.

16. I don't want a vengeance orgy... we already have a torture-seeking |
|
torture craving, torture-defending populace. Enough. If there is any hope of bringing this nightmare to an end, I agree with the OP. We don't need for his followers to make more of a martyr of him--at our hands. Let Osama be determined (without doubt) to be dead of natura causes. Let it end there... This is worth a prayer, I'd say...

I think a death by natural causes would be eminently satisfactory, BTW, but the jurist in me hankers for due process.

i think he is such a major figure among some, and in that area that if it was true there would be a reaction from the people in the area.

17. Alive he is a thorn in the side...dead he is a martyr for al-Qaeda |
|
Assasinated he is a martyr with a death to be vindicated. Dead from natural causes he is a martyr and the guy who replaces him will have to demonstrate his determination and power with attacks.
I don't see much good in any direction. This is the problem with falling into a shit hole, it's just shit everywhere you turn.
