Attack on Iran -- What should the American people do about it? |
|
IF it happens... I think the American people's response should be something bigger than anything seen before. What that response should entail is a matter of detail.
At any rate, we _know_ Bush is fully unjustified about taking any action like this, and therefore, he would be committing international war crimes, not to mention crimes against humanity.
How will we show our revulsion? How will we (sadly) condemn our own government? How will we voice our support for a country suffering under naked U.S. aggression? How will we get this under control?

12. Agreed. This government isn't worth another war |
|
We've tried civil disobedience so many times in the past, though, and it's mostly not bothered them much recently (or at least they don't show it). We need more coordinated action.

5. I Don't think the military establishment will let the ... |

former crackhead, bu$h, attack Iran. The US military is BOGGED DOWN IN IRAQ. :o I'm hearing more and more comments that the military is STRESSED. The National Guard and Reserve troops are on their 3rd rotations, I hear. That is not a good indicator that bu$h's War on Iraq is going well. The US has over 140,000 troops in Iraq and STILL CANNOT SECURE THE COUNTRY. Not a good sign at all.
Personally, bu$h and his Klan are out to conquer the world's oil supply and screw everyone in the way. About 25% of the US population are wing-nuts, or true believers of bu$h. The spew their hatred on Hate Radio day in, day out. They are pushing this act of war. The conservanazi republikans want it.
Let it happen, Cap'n! I believe it will be the beginning of the end of this PNAC criminal empire. bu$h/cheney/rumdummy and condomlicker rice should all be tried for acts of war against other nations.
What the ANG deserter bu$h and draft-dodging cheney don't realize is that Iran has friends like Germany, France, Russia and CHINA. China has enough economic clout to cripple the US economic system. They have enough allies to isolate the US if it came to that, I believe.
The US military cannot stand the stress and the US citizenry (other than the conservanazi lovers) will demand and end to this act and the end of the bu$h cabal. We may have a mutiny on our hands. At least it will happen under bu$h's command, or lack thereof. ;)

The Republicans are probably counting on the people to rally around the president if he starts yet another war, certainly much of the media will try to start this. I don't see this happening, though, this time. When we attacked Saddam, he was a known villian and there was already a vendetta going on with the Bush family. Iran is different, and there are already too many indications of meddling on behalf of neocons and their unsavory elements that are starting to be analyzed in the process of prosecution. Let them try to attack and see what happens.

Firstly, I am skeptical that a war with Iran would happen. Look, America chooses it's targets carefully--and Iran isn't Iraq. She has not suffered a decade of brutal sanctions. She is wealthy. And her army is not a ragtag bunch. I don't think we would see a conventional invasion. What we might see is a strategic bombing campaign to take out the nuclear plant. Maybe from Israel, but Israel is reeling from a failed campaign in Lebanon--so they might not be so willing to go head to head with Iran.
What we will probably see is a concerted effort to get sanctions in place. However, the world is not so forgiving of Bush--so they are in effect working without him to quell the trouble.
I don't see an Iranian front opening up. Bush has used up all his capital....hell he has used up all your capital too. The world is no longer with you. That does not mean that the world is with Iran. You would have no allies other than Israel. It is not enough. Bush knows this. There would be no coalition of the willing.
Imagine for a moment--Venezuala cuts off the oil supply to America. As does Iran obviously. Russia? You've just bombed a russian nuclear facility. Oil prices would spike--supply would dwindle to a trickle. And the entire world facing a grave energy crisis would either unite to fight US empirialism or unite and fight alongside the US. Do you honestly think the world loves America this much? What a gamble. Far far more risky than Iraq. Sanctions yes.....invasion or bombing? I don't think so.

10. I think even a surgical attack should be condemned very strongly... |

as it's still a naked aggression without any basis. It's imperialism at any rate.
