Poll question: How do you think China will respond to BushCo's upcoming...
Edited on Sun Sep-24-06 06:51 AM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...military assault on Iran?

1. They won't do much more than verbal condemnation.

2. Verbal condemnation, and an economic assault on the U.S.

3. Verbal condemnation, economic assault on the U.S., weapons and other military aid to insurgents in Iran and Iraq.

4. All of #3 plus military participation of some sort defending Iran.

1. I don't know if they will impose economic sanctions
China is heavily invested in America's debt, unless they just demand an immediate payment in full.
However, I think they would help Iran in any war against the US. How much? Hard to know.

2. Other - no US sanctions - but all of the others. Thay cannot afford
sanctions on US - AT THIS TIME. Eventually, but not quite yet.

3. Our economy goes- so does theirs...
I think they are to inextricably bound. At least I hope that is the case, cause if they flush our debt we are screwed.

4. I live in Asia.
If we invaded Iran, China would do little more than complain. Possibly complain at the UN. China has little-to-no sympathy for fundamentalist Muslims, Christians, etc.
You ought to read up on how they treat Islamic groups in western China.

5. It'll be "Why don't you and him fight". . . .?
They'd let it go on as long as their pocketbook isn't adversely affected?

8. I would not expect their motivation...
...in whatever action they might take to help Iran to be sympathy, but simply the realization that if U.S. imperialism continues to go unchallenged, China will eventually have to go through the U.S. to meet virtually all its massive and ever-growing energy needs. I don't believe they wlll accept this.

11. The US has little-to-no sympathy for fundamentalist muslims.
However, we did a little more than complain when Kuwait was invaded.

6. Number 3 is most likely
Iran is pretty much self sufficient militarily. China already provides them with military hardware. Our relationship with China is already an economic assault. China will not directly participate because they want to continue draining our treasury and capital as they are doing now. Why give that up?

7. Doesn't China Get A Lot Of Oil From Iran?
Cut off China's inports (about 11% of thier total use) and I would immagine they will have something to say.

12. I voted for 1...
If you want to take down an empire, you try to bankrupt them, break their military, turn the citizens against the govt, and align the other weaker nations against them.

There is no real reason for them to do any of the things you mentioned. Our govt will accomplish what those actions would attempt to do without Chinese interference.

1. War with Iran will wreck our economy for generations. The current cost of Bush's wars are unsustainable...adding a third war against a much stronger enemy is insane from an economic standpoint and would simply accelerate the economic collapse. And I don't see any Bill Clintons on the horizon to come in and balance the budget, pay off debt, and so forth. Hell, we might not even make it to 2009.

2. War now will also require a permanent war-standing against Iran so that every time they get close to building a nuke, we'll have to nuke them again. And again. And again.

3. Iran is fully capable of defending itself. Already mired in two unwinnable wars, adding a third will break our military.

4. World opinion will shift against the US for decades... especially if we use nukes. We will have become what our stupid leaders fear the most: a rogue nation threatening the world with nukes.

At worst, I could see China "turning a blind eye" to some small arms trading by private companies/networks in their borders.
