How Will FOX Respond To Temporary Increased Viewership? |
|
You gotta wonder:
Everyone knew Clinton's interview was coming. Every Democrat worth their salt is going to tune in and watch it. Every Democrat is going to turn it right back off as soon as the Big Dog leaves the stage.
FOX will know. They'll have their secrete polls and they'll know. When a truthful Democrat is on the air more people watch. Watched means money. Its still all about money.
You gotta wonder.

1. You may have a point there |
|
Remember, Murdoch's "Sun" in the UK switched allegiance from the Tories to Labour about a year before Blair was first elected - he smelled the change in the wind IMHO.

2. Fox is State News. Fox is making religious movies, fer cryin' out loud. |
|
They're not going to actually become fair and balanced. They'll remain a propaganda machine for those in power. You know, the ones in power whose military wants to microwave American assemblies, like war protesters.

4. They'll think it's because Clinton "lost it" and people are |
|
tuning in to a freak show. Really. That's how they think.
They'll probably tell the choleric O'Reilly, to turn it up a notch and take his microphone control away from him so the audience can hear his guests voice resentment when he screams lies at them.
That people are desperate to hear Democrats sound like Democrats will dawn on neither Pox News nor the DLC.

20. Fox isn't "the media". It's a GOP propaganda organ. |
|
That's all it's meant to be. They'll follow the message, not the money.
I agree with Warpy- Fox is pushing this because their idiot viewers have been trained for years to slaver at the sight of Bill Clinton, and they've got video of Clinton angry. Or, as Fox puts it, "crazed".

Since most all of TV is now provided by cable, viewership COULD be electronically monitored by the cable services. Not saying it is but could be.

I've always thought they knew every single channel I watched, for how long, at what time of day, when it was raining, when it was dry, during what phase of the moon, on what holidays, before and after breakfast, and as related to pollen counts in my region.

13. The only way TV viewership is measured is currently by Nielsen. |
|
What the Nielsen viewers watch is what sets advertising prices and whether a show is successful or gets cancelled.

14. Then we are talking about two different things |
|
I am not interested in the information they use to set advertising rates or that advertisers use when negotiating advertising rates. What I'm talking about is the private information that executives at FOX must be getting and paying attention to. This could some from a zillion sources, or as many as FOX has affiliates. You know that the people who run these billion dollar industries are not relying on a single, and generally public, source of information about their minute-to-minute viewership.

what. They're not going to be spending big money on the extremely small audiences of political pundit shows. They can makes headlines (witness this one) but the viewership is tiny.
Edited to add: All the political shows here in NYC on NBC this morning have been pre-empted by something with a larger viewership — GOLF.

23. Let Me Look .... 360 ... I didn't have it blocked |
|
I don't watch it but I knew it was just below C-Span and only one or two below where I watch Keith weekday nights. Of course that's just with the way the channel guide looks with the channels I have blocked out. I keep that one FOX News in case I am directed to it for some absurd reason. I doubt that I've watched it a total of 10 minutes, at least before the interview with Bill Clinton this morning.
Despite what that person who seems to know what they're talking about says about Nielson being the only way anyone knows anything in the television industry I sure suspect that Direct TV knows exactly what I'm tuned into every tuned-in minute. That little phone line that goes into the box isn't there for just pay-for-view ordering.

16. It's about the money, all right, but it's about ALL the money, |
|
not just some pittance of advertising revenues. It's about Halliburton and GE and Texaco and MallWart and the drug companies. And they don't give a shit if Clinton caused a little bump in the vewership statistics. Fox is a big part of their propaganda arm, and they have their collective eye on the BIG plan, which involves keeping the majority of the public in a consumerized trance state.

Voting is becoming "window dressing" because the Mega-Corporations represented by a few dozen of the most influential families are running our government.
Do you honestly believe that even the working class right wingers would freely choose "NEVER ENDING WAR"?
However, Perpetual War is good for Wall Street and the Military Industrial Complex.
The Corporations NOT The People are being represented in Congress. These ghouls are squandering all our hard earned tax dollars, and for what? For some imagined "pipe dream" of political and financial dominance of The Middle East? Bullshit! It's for war profiteering. And when Our Beloved Country is BROKE (gutted financial from the inside out), a few influential families (see Mexico) will run the USA. :grr:

An impoverished population will put an end to "the servant problem" once and for all. Since the widespread introduction of agriculture, the worldwide societal norm was for a small, incredibly privileged elite group to sit atop and control a large population of slave laborers. The overall "GFP" (Global Fiefdom Product) may have been incredibly low, but that didn't matter because the rulers had almost all of it.
Throughout most of its history, most of America has followed this model. Not just the antebellum South with its slavery, but the industrial north with its factories, the midwest with the small farmers living just above subsistence level, the mines and ranches of the west, etc. were societies marked by yawning gaps between the conditions of the rich and the poor, who were just about everyone else. The middle class was quite small and sychophantic, existing tenuously at the mercy of the rich. Only with the bloody and hard-fought rise of the labor movement did things get any better for the working people. These conditions peaked sometime after WWII, and the rich have been trying to roll it all back to the 19th century ever since. Under Bush, they may well succeed.

They get the best ratings they can get *while pushing the message*. They're not about to put the cart before the horse.
