The screwed up priorities of bushbot supporters. |
|
My mom, who is a very conservative christian, and I were talking on the phone a little while ago and I mentioned the interview Clinton had on Faux nooz. After some discussion on it she went off on how bad of a president Carter was and I told her I thought Nixon was pretty damn bad. I asked why she thought Carter was so horrible, but she never answered.
Knowing how much she supports bush, I asked her to name something bush did that she thought was a good thing. Never got an answer on that one either. How she jumped from that to the following statement still has me boondoggled.
She is offended that there are people who sing the national anthem in Spanish. I was flabbergasted. I shot right back and said that I didn't care if people sang it in Spanish, French, Russian or Klingon. What matters to me is trying put food on the table, deal with the horrible health insurance we have, and even more so is the horrible war that is killing so many of our troops and civilians.
In order to bring a little levity to a discussion that was quickly growing more intense I ended it by saying...'Besides, Mom, I was really offended when Roseanne sang the anthom at a baseball game.'
I love my mother dearly. She is a very caring and giving woman, but sometimes I wish I could somehow get her to see that bush is a fake christian who is using her and her faith for political gain. It drives me batshit crazy that she continues to support him as a christian man who is doing gawd's will.

1. Give her a copy of "Conservatives Without Conscience" by John Dean. |
|
If there's hope for her, reading that should snap her out of it.

3. Sad to say, she won't read it... |
|
She refused other books I offered her and even several documentaries that she at first expressed interest in. My mother willingly sticks her head deeper in her bible and avoids the truth of bush.
I love my mom, but I honestly believe there is no changing her mind about him. It's possible she might change her mind if someone shaved his head and there was a big tattoo of 666 on it....but I'm not holding my breath.

7. Not even one by a known conservative and ally of Goldwater? |
|
Buy it. Give it to her. Let it sit in the house, and maybe... just maybe... she'll eventually open it. It's worth a try...

2. I think we should encourage the singing of the National Anthem in Klingon |
|
Damn it, now I'm going to spend half the afternoon googling to see if I can find the lyrics. Maybe the KLI has it, I know they do baseball games at Klingon language camp.

4. Ask her what things lead her to believe Stupid is a Christian |
|
let alone a good one. Remind her that talk is cheap, and his saying so doesn't mean a thing. Ask her what he's done.
When she goes off on a tangent (they all do) just cut her off and say you can't think of a thing that would make you believe Stupid is a Chrstian, either.
Then drop it, change the subject to the weather, family gossip, sports, or the price of beans in Turkmenistan, anything.
This tactic works because when you say you can't think of anything, you're agreeing with her. That should stop her in her tracks.
Eventually, you might even get your Mom back.

5. I honestly think that what we are seeing is something similar |
|
to the Jim Jones and the David Koresh...hysteria....people put all of their religious faith in a mere mortal.....
I haven't done enough research on it but I am going to start....what happened to the people that left Jim Jones and Koresh before the tragedies occurred what was the ah hah moment when those that escaped realized they had made a terrible mistake....
