I would tell them whatever they wanted to hear if it meant they would stop.

which leads me to believe that ** and his cronies are sadists in it for the thrill, not for the information.

4. The problem is they torture people who know nothing |
|
and it becomes a prolonged guessing game, trying to come up with something, anything, that one's tormentors want to hear so the agony will stop.

Until about three centuries ago, waterboarding was considered an effective way of getting witches to confess.

6. What kind of human beings |
|
can inflict torture and then sleep at night? Do those who do the torturing have spouses and children? Do their families know what they do? I just can't wrap my mind around the horror of this.

12. I say the same thing. Tahiti Nut pointed out two studies that says |
|
that is not the way we would behave under the right circumstances. I of course argued, but the studies were interesting.

14. I just know I couldn't do it, under any circumstance. |
|
I know myself and there is no way anyone could make me torture someone. I guess they would have too punish me for not following orders.

|
. . .
GW was known for his blood lust long before y'all elected him - TWICE ??
I know that there is probly a very few on this board that voted for Bush, but ya gotta figure - their propaganda is working!
Remember, Hitler was elected also, AND WITH A CLEARER Majority than Bushler . . .
Something to ponder

or die and not be there. I would take my life quickly on a pencil tip rather than be tortured... when its come to that, there's little point in sticking around on this rock.

13. Hey - assuming you survive and are freed, you could sue the |

bastards. Also assuming that the criminal bastards don't write themselves laws that free them to do whatever they want to anyone with impunity.

15. Back in the 70's, one of my Navy instructors who had been in-country |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-24-06 06:50 PM by haele
talked to us a bit about what to do if we were "over-run", as it was still a Cold War world and some of us were going to end up in stations where our security clearances would require that we were to be a government asset that should be part of "Emergency Destruct" procedures if we were in danger of being captured.
This is what he taught us -
If the Marines didn't take care of us, we were supposed to remember to "lie, lie, lie...". Even if "they" knew what we did, play somewhat dumb and indicate that we were nothing more than drones that knew nothing much of policy. Silence would do nothing but get you hurt, and that was one thing you would want to avoid because you wanted to be alert enough to be able to survive and possibly escape.
Be cautious if they were nice to you - you'd be more likely to tell them something you shouldn't if you were relaxed and confident. If they wanted to make deals, just remember "you don't know much, you're just a dumb grunt out of high school" and had been doing your job by rote. You're not worth much to any interrogator if you don't understand what it is you're doing.
The trick was supposed to be "to tell them something plausible enough - tell them what they wanted to hear" and try to make sure that you wouldn't seem important enough to question for further information.
And that even in 'Nam, most times, POW'a were only be tortured as an object lesson to the others, not to get info.
That's what I learned; I imagine it hasn't changed much in the past thirty-fourty years...

18. yes, "why" is torture |
|
It is not to get information, it is to break people mengele style. If they're gonna kill you anyways, maybe you doanna speak english and jusssa make the coffee. The photos i've seen of the Republican torture that has been going on, its really nauseating. I'm feeling really betrayed by the american people, that such a low benchmark as torture has missed their deluded telepersonated lives.
They're behaving just like nazis, just like nazis, its fucking spooky.

But since when has Republicans listened to anything anyone had to say if it went against what they wante to do?! No wonder they've beheaded US NAtionals. We're torturing theirs, so why not? What makes us any better than them? Nothing. Duckie
