Seriously thinking of boycotting CNN |
|
I haven't watched Fox News since a few months after 9/11 and CNN is getting to the point Fox News was at when I stopped watching. This is getting pretty serious...

Since Turner left it's gone to shite, and now stands for Certainly Not News. They're trying to woo viewers away from Pox, and have become worthless in the process. They're also doomed to failure, since Pox has lost 40% of their viewers in the past year as people start to wake up to the fact that they're lying and the gang in Washington is utterly inept.

I wonder if that resulted in people switching to other channels, or just shutting their TVs off in disgust.

Their hiring of Glen Beck ( who muses on air about the feasibility of murdering Michael Moore ) is the very. last. straw.

6. I Have Pretty Much Stopped |
|
And I used to watch CNN all the time. I sent them an e-mail when they announced the Glenn Beck deal. I told them that if they wanted to be like Fox News, they would no longer have me as a viewer. If enough of us leave, it will hurt them. All they are doing is helping to divide the Fox audience into smaller pieces, and if we leave along with that, their ratings are going to take a dive. I guess they will just have to learn this the hard way. Stupid networks, they never learn.

13. I used to watch CNN all the time too. Then, I found C-SPAN after |
|
I discovered Dean was on there a lot during the primaries. The reason I stopped watching CNN and switched to C-SPAN was I noticed CNN didn't cover Dean accurately. The bias was easy to see in Fox, but I thought CNN was balanced. I realized they were not.
I get amused when people her post Wolf said this or that. Just stop watching.

The one a few days ago with Conyers. So maybe I will watch that channel instead of CNN. They just show what is happening, without all the idiot reporters making their comments.

One FOX channel is one too many. I don't use CNN for online news any more, either--which is a hard habit to break, after all these years. Now I use msnbc.com and cbs.com--MSNBC because at least they have the sense to hire Keith, and CBS because of Walter Cronkite.
Dropping CNN and HNN has been quite a timesaver. HNN only had about two minutes of news per half hour anyway.

37. speaking of that missing white woman |
|
I feel just awful for Natalee Holloway's parents, obviously. It's a terrible, horrible tragedy. It's certainly not Natalee's fault that the "news" shows get all hot and bothered over missing white girls.
But when I left the room after KO tonight, and came back in to hear Rita Cosby talking to Natalee's father on the phone (and it's been how many months since she disappeared? It was an end-of-school trip, right, so, like June?), I just had to laugh. I mean, it's TRUE--Rita Cosby's show really IS the Natalee Holloway lack-of-any-new-information show.
(And for that I blame Rita... I don't blame the girl's parents for doing everything they possibly can to publicize this case.)

38. When Rita's not covering Natalee Holloway, she's covering the guy |
|
who disappeared from the cruise ship on his honeymoon.
That is no exaggeration. I'm serious. She goes to Miami and does all her shows from there.
These are her two topics. She never deviates from them unless some sort of breaking news on something else rudely drags her away, like the coal mine disaster. Then she went on location to milk it for every drop of heartbreak possible. Of course, she was among the many who erroneously reported the miners had survived. Now that's done with and she's back to Natalee Holloway and George Smith.

actively encourage your friends, colleagues and aquaintences to stop watching too. Program the channel off the TV.
I've managed to convince about a dozen people in the last year or two- and they're glad they're not being misinformed and lied to anymore.

20. Write CNN and tell them why |
|
I think we all ought to either call them on their shit, or -- if you give up watching altogether -- tell them why.
Personally, I watch them a lot less, but I still watch to see what the media/political gestalt is. And when they piss me off I write and tell them.
WE ARE AT LEAST HALF THE COUNTRY. IT'S TIME FOR THEM TO START RECOGNIZING THAT. AND IT'S TIME FOR US TO STOP ACTING LIKE A PERSECUTED MINORITY.

watching c-span. Turns out I have no DSL available in my area (?) so I plugged the "rabbit-ears" back into my tv (i get PBS ok) and got a cable modem, and can stream all the c-span I want!!!
The only other tv I watch is "The Simpsons" and lately "My Name Is Earl" (what a great show!)

34. I cancelled cable three weeks ago |
|
If I hadn't, I would be cancellin it now. We need a huge organized demonstration of disgust by having millions of people all cancel at the same time. Just one month of that, would make them pay attention. It's in our hands. Complaining constantly does nothing. Taking away their funding will work wonders! The country is in trouble. If people can't do without cable for a few months until we take back the media, then there's no point in complaining anymore, imo.
It was hard to make the decision, but it finally dawned on me that all I did was get angry, and it makes no sense to pay to be angry all the time. I don't miss it now. I will get it back some time in the future if I hear that we are getting news again, not rightwing propaganda.
