Poll question: Does the US have the right to interfere in any religions in the world....
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 12:07 PM by KyndCulture
just because they don't fit the christian mould, have violent histories, commit violence against women(in our opinion) because it is there faith.

I am having a knock down drag out with a freeper, that it somehow become our mission in this world to stop any religious practices in the world that WE deem violent or in OUR definition are abusive to women, even if it means military action.

I ABSOLUTELY think we are not in the business of being the world's zoo keepers for the 13million different religions and religious sects on this planet just because we don't agree with them.

The dude is fucking insane.

What says DU?

1. Here is the problem with the Freeper view
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 12:13 PM by MadMaddie
Once we begin to tell other countries and religions what they can and can't do.....this administration will apply those same tactics in the US and guess what (this would suit your Freeper friend) only the neocon version of Christianity would allowed to be practiced...

This is dangerous territory, this is why the world thinks that the US is on a Christian Crusade to cleanse the world first of Muslims and then other religions...

2. Other: It is futile to try
and so any national effort expended on the US's part is a wasted resource. Try that out on your freeper friend and see exactly how true he/she is to the much-vaunted freeper "small government" sentiment.

3. What this freeptard is saying, in long winded words is...
We can start our own holy war on a whole faith just because we think the faith it self is violent or has a violent history.

I just told this shithead to bone up on his bible... it ain't like the christians don't have a violent history bub.

4. We are a secular nation
We should use our influence diplomatically and militarily(in extreme cases) to promote human rights throughout the world. We shouldn't be taking sides in religious battles.

5. But more and more we are.
He DARED to bring up Iran with me, nukes, anti semites, crazy terrorists.

So I said, well Israel is a religious state for the most part, has plenty of nukes, HATES muslims, and have their own crazy terrorists. Should be bomb the fuck out of them too using your logic.

Logic is of course lost. But it seems very dangerous that these freaks think we are in the business of holy wars!

6. Another weakness
Another weakness in the Argument that America should play social, cultural, political and commercial policeman to the world is that some day America may not be strong enough to do that (like, say, in 2006?).

If it were China playing international hall monitor, no religion would be permitted. If it were some coalition of the Muslim world, then it's sharia law for all, perhaps.

Unfortunately, if you are talking to a freep then he or she probably is not going to be able to imagine a world in which USA does not equal Number One ...

Perhaps if you reminded him that India (Hindu/Muslim/Buddhist), Pakistan (Muslim), China (athiest), Russia (athiest/Christian), and those secular humanist Europeans also have nuclear power, and could build coalitions ...

Good luck, Kynd. Good to see you. :hi:

that is the cruxt of the matter.... this guy cannot for one second imagine there are countries, perhaps even more powerful and greater than we are and if we open this can of worms, we will never be able to close it.

My last effort was to say, Tibet is one of the worst cases of human rights violations in the world thanks to the Chinese.... do you think we need get gung ho, send our troops into Tibet and "bring it on" with the Chinese?

no answer on that one yet.
