If the Democrats don't even TRY to stop torture.... |
|
Is it safe to say that it's all over, and that we should just throw in the towel?
Now, I don't think they'll actually allow the torture bill, but after Iraq, Alito, and a host of so many other things, I would not at all be surprised.
I want to see a genuine unified effort on this one. This is where it's time to DRAW THE LINE. Filibuster the fucking thing to death and if they try the so called "nuclear option", CALL THEIR BLUFF. I honestly can't fucking BELIEVE that the government of the United States of America - let me say that again: The government of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - is trying to legalize torture. It's like we're all living in the bizarro world. Torture in the good old USA.
This cannot stand. This is the most serious issue that needs to be addressed. Not even the Iraq war, not even impeachment, not even the election fraud. If torture passes, the country will exist in name only. No longer can anybody anywhere claim that we are any more civilized or enlightened than anyone else.
The torture bill cannot stand. If the Democrats don't stop it, or at least even TRY, then I think we have to wave the white flag. There is no opposition party. A dictatorship is officially born.

1. They have no influence or power. |
|
The best they can do is try to fillibuster the bill. We've seen how successful that is..

17. blocking John Bolton was a fillibuster. |
|
It's a different kind of a fillibuster but still a fillibuster.

8. Successful? They haven't even bothered to TRY a filibuster |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 02:27 PM by TechBear_Seattle
On anything. And any mention of a filibuster, no matter what the subject, results in the DLC whining and wringing their hands about how now is not the time. And where the DLC goes, the Party follows without question.

15. Not that it was relevant |
|
Bolton got appointed anyway. And when a filibuster of more important than ambassador to the United Nations was discussed -- say, preventing the Junta from packing the Supreme Court with far right wing ideologues or preventing the new Attorney General from being someone on record as saying that the Constitution is irrelevant....

13. Total Nonsense! Look up "unanimous consent" and |
|
... try to figure out how much can pass the Senate without it. ONE Senator can make sure the last minute rape and pillage is halted.

2. Don't Worry! The Battlin' Congressional Dems Have Got Your Back! |
|
They'll use every tool at their disposal to ensure that Americans retain their basic civil liberties, and that America will live up to its obligations of providing basic human rights to combatants.
