Despite all the crap, Howard Zinn gives me hope
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 11:11 PM by libnnc
Today, I just finished reading "You Can't Be Neutral On A Moving Train" (Beacon Press) and I'm struck with what Zinn leaves us:

"Revolutionary change does not come as one cataclysmic moment (beware of such moments!) but as an endless succession of surprises, moving zig-zag towards a more decent society. We don't have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world."--Howard Zinn

3. Howard says "Don't Despair About The Supreme Court"
"It would be naive to depend on the Supreme Court to defend the rights of poor people, women, people of color, dissenters of all kinds. Those rights only come alive when citizens organize, protest, demonstrate, strike, boycott, rebel, and violate the law in order to uphold justice."

5. Unfortunately it took the Supreme's to give MLK validation...with Brown vs
Board of Education and stuff...but..maybe he's correct. You can do alot with "lower courts" providing the Judge isn't a BushBot.

4. He has good points. Maybe we don't see "Progress" until it's
way out there....and it sort of bites you in the backside one day.

I think we might be at a "tipping point." But, then, I was one of those who thought in 2001 that Gore would be vindicated in the first year after the "Selection" because our American Constituion would NOT allow what happened...that Truth would SOON OUT!

Here I am...five years later. So, what do I know? :D
