Good News From Canada
Michael Ignatieff won a seat from Toronto. If you don't know who he is, you should. Author, Scholar, brilliant guy. (maybe a future PM)

http://ksgfaculty.harvard.edu/Michael_Ignatieff

The country didn't vote majority conservative. NDP which is to the left of the Liberal party made gains. They now have 31 seats. The Liberals have 103. The Conservatives have 123. BQ, 50.

It's a Conservativve minority win. No way Harper can shove much of anything through. So stop with the despair. Canada will be alright.

2. Just trying to counter
the ignorant "Canada's following bush's road to perdition" meme that been replicated in post after post tonight.

5. It's ridiculous
This could have been much worse, and like many others have pointed out, the CPC has a minority government; Parliament can call a no-confidence vote at anytime.

6. Are you aware of Ignatieff's record on the neocon agenda?
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 11:43 PM by jim3775
He is quite supportive of it, AFAIC he is Canada's Zell Miller only with more booksmarts and less dueling ability. It is hardly good news that he has won.

9. The Liberal Party has moved right-ward over the years.
They now have views similar to that of the DLC in the States.

Michael Ignatieff might one day lead the Liberal Party, a guy who supported the Iraq war. This guy is a total neocon.

8. In light of the results it is unlikely the Conservatives will be able to
push through anything that is to far to the right as far as Canadians are concerned, the NDP and Liberals will certainly be able to put a leash on those designs. It is a far cry from what has happened in the US.
