College Sophomore Stumps President *

I guess they'll have to have a paid audience from now on. Even the repubs can sometimes ask the wrong questions(assuming the young lady got in because she wasn't a Democrat).

add after 23/ sophomore-stumps-bush/
It's there, but when I update, it disappears

"Full transcript below:

Q: My name is Tiffany Cooper. I’m a sophomore here at Kansas State and I was just wanting to get your comments about education. Recently 12.7 billion dollars was cut from education. I was just wondering how is that supposed to help our futures?

Bush: Education budget was cut — say it again. What was cut?

Q: 12.7 billion dollars was cut from education. I’m wanting to know how is that supposed to help our futures?

Bush: At the federal level?

Q: Yes.

Bush: I don’t think we’ve actually — for higher education? Student loans?

Q: Yes, student loans.

Bush: Actually, I think what we did was reform the student loan program. We are not cutting money out of it. In other words, people aren’t going to be cut off the program. We’re just making sure it works better as part of the reconciliation package I think she’s talking about? Yeah — It is a form of the program to make sure it functions better. In other words, we’re not taking people off student loans. We’re saving money in the student loan program because it’s inefficient. So I think the thing to look at is whether or not there will be fewer people getting student loans. I don’t think so.

Secondly, on Pell Grants, we are actually expanding the number of Pell grants through our budget. Great question. The key on education is to make sure that we stay focused on how do we stay competitive into the 21st century, and I plan on doing some talking about math and science and engineering programs so that people who graduate out of college will have the skills necessary to compete in this competitive world. But I think i’m right on this. I will check when I get back to Washington, but thank you for your question."

4. They may have increased the number of students who receive...
Pell Grants (I'm not sure if they they have done that). But I do know they have reduced the amount per student per grant. Just so they could say they increased numbers, but actually they have cut the program.

6. Whenever he's cornered and doesn't know the answer or wants to lie ...
... he always says, "Great question."

(Of course, he sometimes says that with staged questions, too, but it's a deflection technique that he uses.)

11. don't forget Poland!
I mean, don't forget "I'm glad you asked that."

He always leaves out the second part: "I'm glad you asked that, and I will be sending the Nazgul to get you later today."

7. Bush could care less about us college students...
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 01:01 AM by dethl
For Bush, college was just a place to get really drunk and snort blow all day long. He just wants us to either (A) fail or B) be unable to afford it) so that we have to go out in the real world and work on those "jobs" he's been "creating" (aka- minimum wage at your local McDonalds).

13. Bush has no connection to the real world.
He didn't have to worry about paying or maintaining a GPA to keep a scholarship. Hell, he probably acted like a privlaged little fuck who was entitled to a passing grade no matter what. Ugh.

On a more pleasant note, I like your sig :hi:

8. what the hell is he talking about?
Does he EVER make sense? I absolutely could NOT be in the same room with the man while he blathered on like that. I would seriously have to run from the room screaming and tearing my hair.
Cutting student loans is par for the course with this bunch. Why should they care? Their kids are all just dandy and college costs are no big deal.

12. Yeah, he'll check back when he gets to Washington
I heard that and knew he was lying. If $12.7 billion was cut from education to reform the system, why not use that $12.7 billion to let more students into the system? What was that extra education money spent on? Must have been those Pell Grants. :sarcasm:
