NDP made big gains in both popular vote and seats won. Liberals a strong second, despite a bad campaign and scandals galore. Paul Martin steps down as leader of Liberals. Bloc Quebecois loses 4 seats and drops to ~40% of the vote in Quebec.

The Conservatives won a slim minority government with 124 seats, to the Liberals 103, Bloc 51 and NDP 29. There was 1 independant.

Stephen Harper did not win enough seats to force through his agenda. He can only pass legislation by co-operating with another party.
