"Life Swap" A new reality based show I would like to pitch
It will be very entertaining when elected officials and their loved ones swap lives/jobs/problems with the average American family. Won't it be adorable when they try to figure out whether to pay for heating oil or prescription drugs? Or what to do when the car breaks down the same week the fridge dies- and the Sears card is maxed out? How about when dad gets a pink slip the week before Christmas? The swapped average people could get rid of tax cuts for the wealthy in the first 5 minutes of their terms, end the war on Iraq, increase the number and size of student loans. I can think of hundreds of other fun scenarios that viewers would find enthralling to watch when they tuned in every week. It's a sure fire hit, dontcha think?

1. Great
Fantastic Idea, pitch it to the networks, they would have to be part of the swap for at least a month, kind of like the "roughing it pioneers"

2. exactly.
Who knows, some heretofore heartless bastards may develop empathy for the common man. Really, it could happen.

7. Only if they actually get some empathy
I think it couldn't hurt for a lot of them to come down from their ivory towers.

4. I don't know whether you were being sarcastic or not
(my guess is Not), but I absolutely love that idea. The version where Joe Average gets to enact legislation obviously couldn't ever happen--nor would I want it to, since elected officials should be put in office democratically rather than by a program planner at FOX (I know, how naive of me)--but I really really like the idea of lawmakers having to live with the laws they vote for.

6. That's really all I was going for.
:-) And NO I do NOT want a FOX exec enacting legislation! Perish the thought. They already have too much input.

5. I think it's a FABULOUS idea!
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 02:25 AM by Mind_your_head
I've thought to myself 'in tougher times' (not that everything's perfect for me now, but substantially better)...."how would those HIGHLY overpaid CEO's, lawyers, accountants, et al deal with "this" situation? How would they extricate themselves reasonably (even if it takes some time)? They're supposedly 'so smart', right? That's why they get paid so well....I've wondered what they would do if they were handed THESE CIRCUMSTANCES????

Some people might say that these 'smart people' would never get themselves in such a situation in the first place! They're smart! However, sometimes situations are just 'layed upon you' that one has no/much control over.....divorce, death of your partner, illness, etc.

Part of the 'rulez' of this game is that they can't use their 'accustomed resources' (and people in the upper ranks have MANY that they can call upon). Players can only use 'the knowledge that they have already', any new knowledge that they gain for themselves must be paid for, as necessary, with the resources found in their 'situation'), .... I could/will think of some other 'rulez' that could be added (or perhaps readers of this post can think of some/add to this).

I don't watch TV, don't know anything about 'Reality Shows' (except that there's something 'out there' referred to as such), but if there was such a "Life Swap" program on TV, I'd sign up for cable and be an avid watcher, b/c I'd REALLY like to see how 'they'd do it'!

Oh, one other 'rule'.... all Players must be honest and above board (legal) in ALL of their dealings.

P.S. Briefly thinking of the 'flip side' of "Life Swap"....what happens when a significant portion of the rich folks wealth (or interest income ~ not capital necessary) is given to help people who "really need it" (need that l-i-t-t-l-e bit that's gonna allow them to pull themselves up from their boot-straps, instead of giving a portion of that income to people who will give them 'social/political advantage' (even at the local level)?

Peace

12. Show I'd like to see produced: "Foreclosure"
Every week, a new family losing their home.

Now THAT would be REALITY TV.

I think people really want to know what happens when the wolf comes in the door...
