Driving home from shopping a little while ago, tuned into a little Fleetwood Mac on the radio, and then the news came on. First thing the woman newscaster said:
"The House passed legislation yesterday that allows the President to hold and interrogate detainees."
I FLIPPED. I became one of those insane people you sometimes see alone in their car, shouting and screaming at nobody.
"What do you mean 'allows Bush** to hold and interrogate detainees', you dipshit!! HE ALREADY CAN DO THAT! What it allows is TORTURE and no recourse for the innocent!!! GODDAMIT, doesn't ANYBODY tell the truth in this country anymore?!"
When I got home I fell apart in my husband's arms. Crying and more screaming.
No one knows what's happening because no one's telling them.
I don't understand. Won't somebody please tell me why they're doing this? Why are they doing this to our country?

1. It's all framing. Since our "press" uses rightwing framing, |
|
the people of the US don't really know what's going on. Our newscasters could have worked for Pravda or for the press in Nazi Germany. Many ARE that bad.

2. I share your despair. Suddenly, everything I've always |
|
taken for granted, like shopping and tuning to music on the radio, seems to be slipping away like a failed love affair.

I am a sorry one to speak, I am overwhelmed with emotion, grief, rage, amazement. I share your feelings but we cannot surrender to these "people". This is our Country, these assholes are not worthy of it, we must take it back by whatever means are necessary, TE. Hang on!

10. I don't want to surrender, but what do we hang on to? |
|
My sanity? Ha! I feel less sane every day, watching and listening to what's going on. Keith Olbermann is targeted by some RW nutcase and the NY Posterior makes a joke out of it. (Whereas you just know what their reaction would be if it'd been O'Really or a Republicon on the Hill.) A bill allowing torture and the suspension of habeas corpus is passed with the help of 34 Dems and it's described as 'holding and interrogating'. And it's bound to sail through the Senate without a fight too.
What hope is there left to hang onto? I dearly wish someone would tell me. Because I see NOTHING.

I am seething at work today knowing the Republicans embrace torture. Why are they doing this? Mainly to use the Democrat's "No" votes against them this fall. "See, the wacky Dems care more about the terrorists than they do about your safety" they are going to say. And it will work because this Administration has poured all their effort into scaring the American people into giving up everything great about America for the Republican's false security. I want to know where are all those frickin' Xtian Values Voters now? Is torture now one of their values?
I am furious. I am depressed. I am closer now to leaving this disfunctional country than I ever have in my life.

12. I too wonder what is the point of staying here. |

This is not America. America is gone and we now live in some new, nightmarish fascist country instead. It is harder and harder for me to see what the point of "staying the course" here is.
If I had been picked up in 1996 and mysteriously plunked down in today's America, I would have fought like hell to get out of it and back home. Well, there is no "home" any more, they've taken that from me, but I still have that same "get me the hell out of here" feeling.
Where am I supposed to go now? I feel like a man without a country.

4. Bush is not the highest authority |
|
I'm thinking that a group of countries got together and wroter the Geneva Convention. Now years later, policing of that convention is in the hands of the world court in the Hague.
Bush may be trying to absolve himself of crimes within the USA, but the US is only one country out of a group of many. Say all the other countries decided to prosecute him for war crimes. Maybe hes safe in US but not overseas. Woudnt ya love to see the little cunt extradited?

8. God yes! But when? WHEN? |
|
I don't want to feel hopeless but I do. I just can't imagine other countries standing up to us enough to see the Bush** regime arrested and extradited to the Hague. We can't even get our own Congress and corporate media to stand up to them!!
This must be how the "Bad" Germans felt watching the "Good" Germans cooperating in the takeover of their country. And we know what happened there. I really have so little hope left.
Belated welcome to you, canetoad.

but we must turn this around, we can control this if we believe in ourselves and do everything in our power to vote these thugs out, they have done much damage to our country and us. They show total contempt for everything America should for and towards us. We must not remain silent and we have to get our country back.

11. LOL! I was yelling at the 5:30AM local TV news this morning as well. |
|
"Why the hell don't you bastards report what this bill really was?" "Have you told the people that their Constitution is now in the trash can?" "That the 800 year principle of habeas corpus is now dead in this country?" "That this bill is giving the Chimp 'war powers' as if we were in a real war?"
I'll bet 85% of Americans have no idea what this bill is doing. Destroying the USA as we have known her!!
