Success and the Seven Deadly Sins. Need Eight!
seminar topic at the World Economic Forum tomorrow.

"It's shaping up to be one hell of a week in Davos, where the attendees, including 23 theologians and 15 heads of state, kick off the 35th annual powwow with an opening night supper panel that confronts the issue of ``Today's Sinners and the Seven Deadly Sins.''

the 7 deadly are: gluttony, lust, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride

apparently the group will be looking for an 8th deadly sin that applies today. "...candidates for the eighth deadly sin are `nationalism in the name of God' and `not acting to change social and economic structures that kill people.' "

from the article, it sounds like a bunch of gluttonous, lustful, greedy, proud people getting together to justify/rationalize the "the avarice and woes of the rich and famous." but an interesting topic, nonetheless.

nominees for the 8th deadly sin?

1. I would think it would be a variant on sloth
in the sense of Idleness in the face of our fucked up world economic system and the political powers that kill millions upon millions of people every fucking year

complacency?

2. complacency
complacency would work across the board - not only for corporations but for the average person as well. i'm amazed at how many people can heave a heavy sigh and figure that there is not much to be done about the state of affairs.

3. Fear
People are too afraid to do the right thing, so for expediency, they go along to get along, sometimes at the expense of their souls.
