White House Was Told Hurricane Posed Danger (Katrina) NYT
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/24/national/nationalspecial/24katrina.html

WASHINGTON, Jan. 23 - The White House was told in the hours before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans that the city would probably soon be inundated with floodwater, forcing the long-term relocation of hundreds of thousands of people, documents to be released Tuesday by Senate investigators show.

A Homeland Security Department report submitted to the White House at 1:47 a.m. on Aug. 29, hours before the storm hit, said, "Any storm rated Category 4 or greater will likely lead to severe flooding and/or levee breaching."

The internal department documents, which were forwarded to the White House, contradict statements by President Bush and the homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff, that no one expected the storm protection system in New Orleans to be breached.

8. There should be a special comittee
In Congress whose sole purpose is to document and compile all of the BS this administration spews and then file it with the TRUTH about whatever issue they are talking about.

It will make impeaching them sooooo much easier.

4. HA!
There was a thread about the next big political SNAFU that would hit the WH and, of the 5 predictions that I laid down, this was #3 and the first to come to pass.

Of course, it was a fairly easy one to figure out. Apparently GW was the only one in the nation who thought Katrina wouldn't be a problem.

What a d**chebag!

12. So where the hell was unitary executive then? eh?
We keep hearing that * had to go outside the law on the wiretaps because Americans were in danger and yet, *'s defenders keep on saying that * couldn't do anything about Katrina because his hands were tied by various laws, rules, and regulations. Where the hell was the unitary executive or whatever bullshit name they have given to their gibberish then? They knew a major city and thousands of American lives were in Jeopardy, if there was any time that going outside the laws and procedures was justified surely this was the time. But no, he ate cake and strummed a guitar and a city died. Where was this man with such deep concern for american lives that he had to break the law to keep them safe. Where was he? Nowhere to be found..

I guess Matthews had better hope he is never in danger from a natural disaster, cause * will let his ass out to dry.

13. It was so obvious down here
they were oblivious, or intentionally negligent about this whole thing. Then the lies started.

I hope no one on this board EVER has to be in the middle of one of these stories of *'s gross incompetence, and subsequent spin.

The average joe watching their local news, was more informed than the highest ranking officials responsible for the rescue effort. After sitting in my powerless apartment for days, in the 98 degree heat, I turn on the TV to see that no one had brought food or water to the 30,000 stranded outside the Dome. Trucks full of water were TURNED AWAY from American citizens dying of thirst. They claimed they couldn't get supplies out, while the media, Jesse Jackson, and Sean Penn zipped there in less than 2 days.

Again, I hope none of you has to go through an incident like this. I watched the government commit mass negligent homicide, and convince many people that it never happened. I'm still infuriated.

Please don't forget about this--there are still many unanswered questions, including 3000 "missing" citizens of the US. We've only scratched the surface of this atrocity.
