Imagine it's 2009 and Hillary Clinton is president |
|
As president, she jails conservatives who appeared at her campaign rallies in 2008, she fences off anti-abortion protesters into "free speech" zones, uses the FBI to infiltrate conservative think tanks, sponsors the rigging of the 2010 midterm elections to ensure continued Democratic victories, "disappeares" conservative columnists and pundits off to Guantanamo, orders the FCC to trump up a bunch of charges that would force Rush Limbaugh off the air, conducts tax audits against citizens who write conservative LTTE's in local newspapers, wiretaps phone conversations of whomever she pleases without a court warrant (especially prominent conservatives), publicly outs covert CIA agents who express disagreements with Administration policy, refuses to provide natural disaster aid to conservative communities hit by tornadoes and hurricanes, and uses the Patriot Act to declare the NRA and the Christian Coalition "terrorist organizations".
Then lets say she orders the military to seize all health insurance companies and establish a government run health care system, with the CEO's of these companies labeled as enemy combatants.

3. Wow, what a great platform--and I was foolishly opposing Hillary! |

I guess I'd be out in the streets WITH the wingnuts if any of this came to pass. I stand with Voltaire: "I disagree most profoundly with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
(Actually Voltaire didn't say this or anything very like it, although the quote quite well summarizes his philosophy. The well-known quote, something like what I wrote and often attributed to Voltaire, was in fact written by an early biographer.)

4. Exactly. NO president should have these powers. |
|
my question is did they not consider this possible scenario, are they all right with this possible scenario, or are they planning on being in power forever?

The point is that the RW nutters have no problem with their feckless leader doing these things. It's OK as long as it's your point of view being shoved down the other guy's throat - when the shoe is on the other foot, it's no longer acceptable for a president to have these powers.
The right will go ape shit if Hillary assumes these powers are hers to wield.

5. I'd say she'd be fulfilling all our wildest fantasies |
|
While she's at it, she should designate Death Valley as a reservation for all neocons and fanatical evangelists and ship all their asses there to live in agony together!
