12. He's hitting Alito's record in not following precedent HARD!
Even though Alito, in the hearings, tried to sound like he would honor precedent, Schumer is citing case after case where he did not!

5. i like the argument about not answering questions...
When a fellow adult poses you a legitimate question, you should answer.
George Bush and Snotty McClellan need to learn this too.

They can take lessons from guys like Feingold and Schumer and Biden.

8. In light of his unclear oral responses
we must examine his written record even more closely. Alito gives impression of always charting a right wing course on too many important issues. OUTSIDE THE MAIN STREAM!!!

16. He would have opportunity
on SCOTUS to overturn established precedent. Wiretapping, R v W. He refused to answer. Distanced himself from some former positions (one man, one vote), but remained opaque on these issues.
Would move country backward;
I have not choice but to vote "nay"!!!

20. Out of the mainstream, doesn't want to let the American people know his
true views...Schumer was very hard-hitting. Excellent.

Now Cornyn is making comments that fly in the face of what Schumer just said, saying that the opposition is just repeating "rumor or speculation." Right after Schumer cited case after case to support his opposition to Alito, that just sounded absolutely stupid! LOL

24. Cornyn is a total prick
When a matter goes beyond a jury, the attorneys are concerned with credibility of the witnesses. When it goes before a judge, a lot more emphasis is put on the facts. Who are we going to believe? The Republicans that have stolen and cheated us out of everything or the Democrats who appear to always be looking out for the American people? Now he's pulling out that we made the wife cry. Good God.

okay, I am updating:

Dem: His record clearly shows his words do not match his deeds

Rep: I think he seems like a stand up guy.

Dem: He works to erode privacy rights

Rep: This one judge I spoke to likes him fine.

Dem: His decisions show a complete disregard for workers/woman's rights

Rep: This one black judge likes him.

Dem: His record reflects a pre-disposition to allow for unchecked presidential power.

Rep: You guys are mean to him and his poor wife. Give the President his way.

A black defendant wanted an appeal because he had an all-white jury for 4 trials.

Scalito refused because he said that 4 consecutive white juries = 5 out of the last 6 Presidents being left-handed. He equated it to that.

will only also do so regarding a filibuster...

Durbin is also speaking eloquently against Alito. The Dems, if this were to be decided purely on the arguments in the debate, would clearly have it won. Too bad that's not the criteria.

77. "he didn't have a note in front of him" How impressive.
Boy, that's not lowering the bar - he didn't need notes for a hearing he was PREPARING FOR for a month.

You are way too used to Bush as a world leader, Brownback.

98. Wait until
I think Bush is counting on a religious backlash. Why because they can orginize. Funny how the religious right does not take up the fact that we are replacing our industrial revnues with gambling revenues and all the gangsters that come with it. Bush vs Rico in 2006

There are some very ugly Senators representing some very ugly citizens in this country. Ugh. Puke.
