It's time to begin Iraq pullout-Richard Mellon Scaife's Rag
Note the spinning! My apologies if this was posted before. Local liberal radio host Lynn Cullen just brought this up.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/search/s_414357.html

We didn't agree with Jack Murtha in November when he called for an immediate withdrawal of United States forces from Iraq. The timing was not right. But the times have changed.
When the Pennsylvania congressman made his call, critical December parliamentary elections were ahead; cut-and-run talk was inappropriate.

But successful elections have passed. And contrary to what some may say, Iraqis are stepping up to the plate, as evidenced by the number dying in defense of their fledgling republic. Native Iraqi terrorists and those of the al-Qaida brand also are starting to battle each other.

<snip>

This is not retreat. This is not cut-and-run. This is a recognition of the reality in Iraq -- one that has evolved into an Iraqi problem that only the Iraqis now can solve -- and that the paramount world security threat now is Iran.

On CBS's "60 Minutes" Sunday night, Murtha predicted the "vast majority" of U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by year's end if not sooner. We hope he's right. The time has come.

2. Yeah times have changed--elections looming up ahead!
the reality is that everyone knows now that the Iraq invasion was a massive fuck-up on the part of Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and their associates. They still are working towards a permanent military presence in the Middle East. This call for a "pull-out" is political cover for the Republicans in November, nothing less.

3. If SCAIFE is calling for a pull-out it must be because
the troops will soon be needed in IRAN.

4. Cut and run? Perish the thought. It's "peace with honor".
Just keep the 'copters on standby on the Embassy roof.

5. Oh baby, is the timing right now!
We got elections of our own coming up in November, and with the abysmal GOP "accomplishments" of the last election cycle, we need something real big and real feel-good to gull the sheep once again.

US out of Iraq NOW! The GOP's continuing electability is at stake.

6. Wow, they are so deluded
I'm in awe of the self-deception. Iraqis are stepping up? What a load. Things are worse than they were, security is worse than ever, support for the insurgency is up, the reconstruction effort is over (with most of the funds stolen or spent on mercenaries for protection, etc. etc.

I think we should get out soon, but to try to declare victory and leave is SO Vietnam.

7. Spin ,spin, spin, bullsh*t spin!!!
We need to declare loud and clear, that we were the ones on top of this issue and this administration waited to do this until it was to their advantage to do so. Now, they are actually cutting and running and leaving the Iraqi's to fend for themselves.
We can not allow these greedy, unscrupulous people to get away with jerking our soldiers and Americans around like this.

8. "and that the paramount world security threat now is Iran"
So there you have it. We're leaving Iraq and moving into Iran (which is insane). This article is part of preparing the public for an attack on Iran.

9. "The timing was not right." re-Murtha's call
Yep - it was before the 2006 campaign for Repukes to claim that getting out of Iraq was all their idea . . . ya know, for re-election . . .
